Students explored the world's three major climate zones, some of the world's landforms,
bodies of water and briefly plants/animals in our area.

Arts Education 2

Curricular Competencies: Create artistic works collaboratively and as an individual using ideas
inspired by imagination, inquiry, experimentation, and purposeful play

Students created recycling robots for earth day, candles for Mother's Day and studied landforms in
pictures on the comox valley that they recreated with construction paper.

English Language Arts 2

Curricular Competencies: Recognize the structure and elements of story


Create stories and other texts to deepen awareness of self, family and community.

Students learned to describe character as well as noticing the problems, events and solutions in
various stories. Students finished this unit by writing their own stories using the story elements.

Mathematics 2

Big Ideas: Objects and shapes have attributes that can be described, measured, and compared.

Curricular Competencies: Develop and use multiple strategies to engage in problem solving.

Students explored measurement using non-standard units of measurement then moved into
standard measuring with rulers and meter sticks. They explored measurement in their
classroom and around the school yard. Students also worked on estimation and recording that
includes units.

Science 2

Big Ideas: Materials can be changes through physical and chemical processes

Curricular Competencies: Demonstrate curiosity and a sense of wonder about the world

Students tested what objects bend, stretch and squish. They also combined cornstarch and
water to see what happens when you stir it and mixed milk, food colouring and dish soap.
Students made predictions for each experiment and got curious about what will happen next.
