Is new technology a silver bullet for language teaching and learning?

For the past few years, students became an avid fan of the books and black board that serves as the

primary source of their learning. However, it suddenly change when there is a spike of new technology in

our society. The rapid growth of technology greatly influences our educational system here in the

Philippines. It gives color and twist to the traditional learning system that we have before.

We are all aware that traditional technology is not enough to suffice the needs of students in terms of

language learning since it requires a more practical and adaptive tools for students to better understand

the concept. The innovation of new technology like mobile phones, projector, smart board and others

leads to a more productive learning outcome of the students nowadays. In teaching a language, teacher

can attract the attention of the learners by providing them a more attractive pictures or graphics using

smart board. It helps not only the students but also those teachers who are afraid that their students

might not understand them due to lack of interesting topic. On the other hand, most students nowadays

ages from 2-4 years can fully express their selves to other people since they were able to adapt the

language on the videos that they are watching on the YouTube. These are some of the example scenario

where new technology is a silver bullet for teaching and language learning.

In today's situation, we cannot deny the fact that new technology offers a better experience than what we

have before. It can be seen how students nowadays utilize technology as a part of their daily routines and

activities. The new technology makes the ambiance of the class more engaging and adaptive
