Section – B
21) Match the Column:-
Column A Column B
a) Cinnamaldehyde Rhodium
b) Wilkanson Catalyst 3-Phenylprop-2-enal
c) Acetophenone Cobalt
d) Vitamin B12 Zwitter Ion
e) Sulphanilic Acid 1-Phenylethanone

22) Case Study :-

Amines are classified as primary, secondary and tertiary amines. Primary amines cannot be obtained by
ammonolysis of alkyl halide because we will get mixture of 1°, 2° and 3° amines. Cyanides on reduction gives
primary amines where as isocyanides on reduction gives secondary amines. Nitro Compounds on reduction also
gives primary amines. Primary amines react with CHCl3 and KOH to form foul smelling isocyanide. They react
with HNO3 and liberate N2 amine form yellow oily compounds with HNO2 and salt formed with C6H5SO2Cl, is
insoluble in KOH. 3° amines form salt soluble in water with HNO2 but does not react with C6H5SO2Cl .

(i) Why is an alkylamine more basic than ammonia?

(ii) Why Aniline does not undergo Friedel-Crafts reaction.
(iii) What is Hinsberg reagent?
(iv) Write IUPAC name of the following compound: (CH3CH2)2NCH3
(v) How may methyl bromide be preferentially converted to methyl isocyanide?

Section-C
23) Write the equations involved in the following reactions:
(i) Wolff-Kishner Reduction
(ii)Etard reaction
OR
Write the reactions involved in the following reactions:
(i) Clemmensenreduction
(ii) Cannizzaro reaction
3+
24) Explain why [Co(NH3)6] is an inner orbital complex whereas [Ni(NH3)6]2+ is an outer orbital complex.
(At.no. Co = 27, Ni = 28)
Section-D
25) Predict the products of the following reactions:

26) In the following cases rearrange the compounds as directed :

(i) In an increasing order of basic strength :
C6H5NH2, C6H5 N(CH3)2, (C2H5)2NH and CH3NH2
(ii) In a decreasing order of basic strength :
Aniline, p-nitroaniline and p-toluidine
(iii) In an increasing order of pKb values :
C2H5NH2, C6H5 NHCH3, (C2H5)2NH and C6H5NH2
OR
State reasons for the following:
(i) pKb value for aniline is more than that for methylamine.
(ii) Ethylamine is soluble in water whereas aniline is not soluble in water.
(iii) Primary amines have higher boiling points than tertiary amines.
Section-E
27)(a) Give chemical tests to distinguish between
(i) Propanal and Propanone, (ii) Benzaldehyde and Acetophenone.
(b) How would you obtain
(i) But-2-enal from Ethanal, (ii) Butanoic acid from Butanol,
(iii) Benzoic acid from Ethylbenzene?
