Abstract

Students’ evaluation ratings to MAED Professors played an important role in both teaching
and learning process. It provides feedback on the professional qualities and delivery of
instruction of the professors. This study assessed the professional qualities, delivery of
instruction of the MAED professors as well as the significant relationship of the said
variables. A total of 24 MAED professors’ student evaluation ratings from the first trimester
to second trimester of 2019-2020 were analyzed. Descriptive-correlational research design
and total enumeration sampling were both utilized in this research. Results showed that the
MAED professors have very high levels in their professional qualities and delivery of
instructions in two consecutive trimesters. Likewise, a strong positive correlation existed
between the delivery of instruction and the professional qualities.

Introduction

Students’ evaluation of their professors in MAED programs is being conducted to

determine the professional and instructional deliveries of the professors. Since students have

a direct contact with their professors, they are in the proper position to tell how effective or

ineffective their professors are. According to the editorial team (2020) student feedback can

be genuinely helpful, offering teachers a chance for self-awareness and insight that can help

then become better at their jobs and for Robinson (2020), teacher quality is positively linked

with student learning. At the same manner, Liceo de Cagayan University require its MAED

Professors to be evaluated on or before the end the semester as part of the criteria of the

professor’s proficiency performance (LDCU Faculty Manual, 2017). Professors who have

attained higher students’ evaluation ratings were retained while professors who obtained a

students’ evaluation rating below the minimum were normally expelled from teaching. This
Liceo de Cagayan University School of Teacher Education 3
is how important this students’ evaluation of professors is and it acts as stabilizer in the

teaching and learning process.

For the university, to evaluate the professors’ teaching competence, it has to look into

the professional qualities and instructional deliveries of its academic workforce. But what

exactly are these terms? Indeed Editorial Team (2021) defined professional qualities as

characteristics you can use to show your employer and colleagues that you can do your job well.

Although you need technical skills for your specific role, the qualities of a professional tend to be

more like soft skills. They are your personal attributes that help you work toward your goals and

efficiently work with others while Instructional Delivery refers to the interaction among the

student, the teacher, the content, and the knowledge/skills/dispositions students will need for

learning and collaborating with others in a diverse society and rapidly changing world. The

process of instructional delivery involves applying a repertoire of instructional strategies to

communicate and interact with students around academic content, and to support student

engagement (Friendly, 2020). With the above information, the researchers propose that both

these variables affect teaching and related to one another. Learning can be facilitated easily if

the professor has higher competence on professional qualities and has higher command for

instructional deliveries. This study was conducted to come up with in deep analysis on how

MAED professors performed and deal with their students in and outside the classroom. This

study is a necessity in making sure that only the effective professors are given the chance to

handle MAED subjects offered in the university.

Framework of the Study

This research paper was anchored on the code of ethics of the professional teachers as

stated in RA 7836. The code states that Every teacher shall uphold the highest possible

standards of quality education, shall make the best preparations for the career of teaching,

and shall be at his best at all times and in the practice of his profession (RA 7836) and the

standards of teaching of Liceo de Cagayan University for the MAED programs (LDCU

Faculty Manual, 2017).

Statement of the Problem

The main purpose of the study was to assess the student evaluation ratings of the

MAED professors. Specifically, it answered the following questions:

1. What is the level of professional qualities of the LDCU MAED

Professors?

2. What is the level of the delivery of instruction of the LDCU MAED

Professors?

3. Is there a significant relationship between the professional qualities

and delivery of instruction?

Hypothesis

There is no significant relationship between the professional qualities and delivery of

instruction.

Scope and Delimitations of the Study

The study covered the assessment of professional qualities and the delivery of

instruction of MAED professors for the school year 2019-2020. Only MAED professors were

used in this study due to pandemic and the absence of face to face classes

Significance of the Study

This study was greatly significant to the Liceo de Cagayan University School of

Teacher Education MAED professors. The output of this research can be used as a basis of
Liceo de Cagayan University School of Teacher Education 6
improving the MAED program offerings of the University. Likewise, the research

community who have interest in exploring the graduate programs.

Definition of Terms

Operationally and to guide our readers of the terms used in this study. The researchers

came up with the definition of the following terms.

Professional Qualities. This refer to the characteristics you can use to show

your employer and colleagues that you can do your job well. Although you need

technical skills for your specific role, the qualities of a professional tend to be

more like soft skills.

Delivery of Instruction. This refers to the interaction among the student, the

teacher, the content, and the knowledge/skills/dispositions students will need

for learning and collaborating with others in a diverse society and rapidly

changing world

METHODOLOGY

The study was conducted at Liceo de Cagayan University School of Teacher

Education, RN Campus, Carmen, Cagayan de Oro City. The university has attained its level-

1 PACUCOA Accreditation Status in 2018 and is scheduled to be visited for its level -2

PACUCOA Accreditation application this year 2021. The study conducted by select group of

STE Faculty members used descriptive correlational research design. A total of 14 MAED

Professors were used as the participants of the study for the first trimester of the school year

2019-2020 and 12 MAED Professors for the 2 nd trimester of the school year 2019-2020. The
Liceo de Cagayan University School of Teacher Education 7
researchers utilized the total enumeration sampling for the selection of the participants.

Furthermore, the researchers used a standardized questionnaire owned by the University to

assess the professional and instructional deliveries of the MAED professors. To gather the

data, the researchers sought first the approval of the VP-RPE of the university. After her

approval, the researchers asked the permission of the participants and their approval that their

students’ evaluation ratings be used in this study. Likewise, mean was used to determine the

levels of professional qualities and instructional deliveries and Pearson r correlation was used

to determine if there was a significant relationship between the said variables.

“The professor raises though provoking questions” got the lowest mean of 4.40. The overall

mean is 4.57 which can be interpreted that the MAED professors have very high delivery of

instruction. This finding is not a surprise at all since the MAED professors hired by Liceo

University were highly competent and experienced.

Table 5 presents the Significant Relationship between the Professional Qualities and

Delivery of Instruction for 1st Tri-Semester 2019-2020. As shown in the table, the P-value is

0.000 is lesser than the alpha level of 0.05. This can be interpreted that there was a very

strong positive significant correlation between the delivery of instruction and professional

qualities. This means that increasing the professional qualities of MAED professors will

likely improved their classroom delivery instruction. This finding affirmed what Gagnon

(2019) opined that some qualities of a good teacher include skills in communication,

listening, collaboration, adaptability, empathy and patience result into effective teaching,

engaging classroom presence, value in real-world learning, exchange of best practices and a

lifelong love of learning. Likewise, this finding also conformed to Soe(2018), that teachers’

professional development is the very important factor for improving teacher’ classroom

practices.

value of 0.00 is lesser than the alpha level of 0.05. This means that there was a strong

positive correlation between the delivery instruction and professional qualities. This means

that when the professional qualities of MAED professors is higher their delivery of

instruction is also higher. This finding affirmed what Gagnon (2019) opined that some
