Parousia of Jesus Christ (2 Peter 1:16-18)

Introduction

Until now, the church has focused on the forgiveness of sins of each
person through the cross and resurrection of Jesus Christ. However, not
only the salvation of individual souls, but also the salvation of the all
creatures should be the true desire of Christians.

Because even if we are saved, if others are crying and suffering, our
hearts cannot be at peace. Therefore, it is the mission of the church to
wait for the return of Christ to bring about this final salvation. It is also a
hope.

"Christ will return in power" (2 Peter 1:16; Mark 13:26). Peter wrote
that this was not a myth or parable because he had seen the greatness
of Christ with his own eyes.

Peter mentions the incident at the Mount of Transfiguration (Matthew

17:1-8). Because here he saw the second coming of Jesus Christ. And
God said to Jesus, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.
This is the one who was chosen by God to eventually rule the world.

Many people may think that the return of Christ with His glory and power
is just like a fantasy. But Peter said, we ourselves heard this very voice
borne from heaven, for we were with him on the holy mountain.(18v)

Application

In this way, the Apostle Peter powerfully testified to the Church that the
present suffering is not everything, and that if we wait patiently, Christ
will surely come again in power.

The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace
of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. (Romans 16:20)

In this time of corona and war, let the church proclaim to the people that
the Kingdom of God is coming.

2 Peter 1:16-18

16 For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made

known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but
we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.

17 For when he received honor and glory from God the Father, and
the voice was borne to him by the Majestic Glory, This is my
beloved Son,with whom I am well pleased,

18 we ourselves heard this very voice borne from heaven, for we

were with him on the holy mountain.

Mark 13:26

26 And then they will see the Son of Man coming in clouds with
great power and glory.

Matthew 17:1-8

And after six days Jesus took with him Peter and James, and John
his brother, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. And
he was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun,
and his clothes became white as light. And behold, there appeared
to them Moses and Elijah, talking with him. And Peter said to Jesus,
Lord, it is good that we are here. If you wish, I will make three
tents here, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah. He
was still speaking when, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed
them, and a voice from the cloud said, This is my beloved Son,
with whom I am well pleased; listen to him. When the disciples
heard this, they fell on their faces and were terrified. But Jesus
came and touched them, saying, Rise, and have no fear. And
when they lifted up their eyes, they saw no one but Jesus only.
