5 WAYS TO

IDENTIFY
FAKE NEWS
Fake news spreads faster than the truth.
Here are some ways to spot it!

CHECK THE SOURCE.

When seeing news or articles online, it is critical to determine whether
they are from a genuine or dependable source. Begin by inspecting the
site's URL or link, as there are some websites out there that are false
or resemble the original. A real URL must begin with “https://” and has
a lock on the upper left of the address bar.

CHECK THE AUTHOR AND

THE SOURCES THEY CITED.
The next step is to determine whether the author is
legitimate by investigating their identity and previously
published works/articles. Some authors are paid trolls
who aren't journalists or professionals. Checking the
author's sources will establish that the news is true and
correct. A lack of proof might imply a falsified news
story.

CONDUCT A CROSS-CHECK.
Dates, facts, timelines, photos, and videos are
all manipulated in fake news. Comparing and
contrasting it with other sources is necessary
in order to determine if it is real or fake. If
other articles do not contain the same facts or
data as the one you’re reading this might be a
red flag for fake news.

CHECK FOR BIASES.

Readers of the news must be given the full
picture, not just one side of the story. Real
news cannot contain bias, personal viewpoints, or
facts that exclusively support their point of
view. If they just utilize facts that support
their point of view, readers will get a skewed
picture of reality.

BE CRITICAL.
Nowadays news is difficult to verify, and some of it
is purposefully false. It is crucial that we think
critically about the news we encounter and only
share information that we have confirmed. Let us not
harm ourselves or others by spreading misleading
information. We must automatically report fake news
and websites that propagate misinformation.
