1. Let x(t) be a periodic square wave with a fundamental period of 1 millisecond. Is it possible to
sample this signal and reconstruct it exactly from the sampled signal? Explain your answer. (3M)

2. A sinusoidal signal x(t) with RMS amplitude of V is to be uniformly quantized with 8 bit analog

to digital converter. Determine (i) the possible range of input signal (ii) quantization level and the
(iii) quantization step size. (6M)

3. For the signal x[n] shown in Figure 1, sketch the output signal y[n] which is defined as
 x[n], when n is even

11. Obtain eight point DFT of the sequence x[n] = {1, 1, 1, 1, -1, -1, -1, -1} using DIT-FFT algorithm
with neat butterfly diagram. (8M)
12. Find the coefficients of a sixth order FIR high pass filter with unit pass-band gain and cut-off
frequency equal to 750 Hz. Assume the sampling frequency to be 6 kHz and the window to be
hamming window. (6M)
13. The difference equation of a linear phase FIR filter is of the form
y[n]  b0 x[n]  b1 x[n  1]  b2 x[n  2] . Determine the coefficients of the filter that satisfies the
following requirements: (6M)
a. For a constant input signal, that is if x1[n]  1, n , the output y1[n]  0 .
b. For the input signal x2 [n]  cos(n) , the output y2 [n]  cos(n) .

c. For the input signal x3 [ n]  cos n  , the output signal should be phase shifted by 900.

14. The transfer function of an analog filter is given by H ( s )  . Transform this analog filter into

an equivalent digital filter using (a) Bilinear transformation technique and (b) Impulse Invariant
Technique. Assume the value of T = 0.2 seconds in both the cases. Plot (i) the pole zero map of the
resultant digital filter (ii) Magnitude and phase responses of the resultant digital filter. (6M)
15. Design a low pass Chebyshev type I filter with maximum gain of 3dB, pass band ripple at 0.5dB,
stop band attenuation at 30dB, the pass band frequency is 2.5k rad/sec and a stop band frequency is
12.5k rad/sec. (6M)

16. Obtain the cascade and parallel forms of realization of the system whose transfer function is given
