A Note to the Travelers, Part 2 Preparation for the World Ismail Dhul-Qarnayn

Know that the preparations for the world are two categories, preparation merely for the
sake of the world and the preparation for the world for the here-after. The first is that man
arranges for reasons to collect it to boast about it. Everything that is gained therein is
heedlessness about the here-after, and he increases in delusion and tyranny. The lesson is
that the world diverts you from abiding by the divine law and impels him to differ from it
for the sake of the world and its consequence. The second one is like a merchant who
arranges the world to eat what is lawful from it or to give to the poor and the needy and to
obtain the mercy of his lord in order to free himself for the needs of man and to protect
himself from humiliation. The sign of this is that it not hoarding, hypocrisy or
unselfishness. He relives the burden of the Muslims and he makes a way for those in
difficult circumstances.

The world is not absolutely objectionable, not everything is the world is offensive. What
is objectionable is when it diverts man from his spiritual path and his rewards of the after-
life. Which diverts him from worship and he becomes a servant in it quest. The
objectionable quest is the one who requires it from himself and not for his lord, only for
the world and not the next, for it treasures and not to assist others, for mutual boasting
and not to fulfill necessary need (s).

Hence man are of two types; a servant who seeks the world for boasting, hoarding,
iniquity, stinginess and spreading corruption in the earth. The other is the servant who
seeks the world to make use of it for the after life and obtains it by it the obedience of
Allah. Shaykh Abu al-˜Abbas al-Mirsa say, There is no world, nor after-life for the
Knower of Allah. Because his life is for the next life and the next life is for his Lord. By
this, he sustains the states of the Companions and the Righteous Predecessors whom lived
the riches live. They strive for possession not merely for the sake of the world, its
attraction, or to obtain its delight, they are what Allah ¹ describes them in His book:

Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah and those who are with him are strict to those who
are opposed to truth and they are merciful between themselves (of those who accept
truth)

What’s your consideration is of people whom Allah loves and hath chosen them as the
Companions of His Prophet , to be his helpers and the subjects of His message in His
revelation. They are the ones who carried to us about the Prophet ÿ and the judgments,
explained the prohibited and the lawful and understood the particularities of cases. Surely
they are worthy of what the Messenger of Allah said:

My Companions are like stars, anyone which you follow, you will be guided.

And Allah ¹ describes them in many ways in His book:

They seek bounty from Allah and help Allah and His messenger. They are the loyal.

This is because they did not long to obtain the world and they did not strive for it except
to see the Face of Allah and His Favor. Allah said again:

In the houses which Allah permits the voices to be raised where his name is remembered
therein. They praise Him throughout the night and morn. Men who let not trade divert
them from Allah’s remembrance, they establish the prayer and pay the poor-due, they
fear the day in which the hearts and vision will be turned up for Allah to reward of what
they did and that He will increase it for them from His bounty, for Allah provides to
whom He wish without measure.

Allah didn’t prevent them from the acquisition of means, trade and of buying and selling.
Nor did He forsake them from praise. He enriched them when they acted with the rights
of their Lord and turned away from riches for His sake. The wealth of the dunya was
carried in their palms but not in their hearts and they were patient when it was lost and
thankful to Allah when it was obtained. For Allah tested them with poverty and lack of
wealth in their first condition. And when their lights were perfected, their inner-self
manifested and it submitted to them because if they were given it before that time,
perhaps it would have over occupied them. But since they were given it after
strengthening and being firmly established in certainty and conduct themselves of it. And
they exemplify the words of the Lord of the Worlds:

Enough proof for you of the their lack of love for it is Abu Bakr ² departing all his
wealth in times of expeditions, the departing of ˜Umar ² of half of all his wealth, abd-
RagmÄn bin ˜Auf supplying a full caravan of Kamels, Uthm bin AffÄn supplying the
troops with his own wealth. And many other examples of the excellence of their works
and may Allah ¹ be pleased with them always and forever. For the verses attested to the
purity of their inner and outer selves, of the affirmation on their praises and their glorious
traits. His Companions ², are those who saw and believed in him. They are the best
nation, then the followers and then the ones who followed them. They have the
forgiveness from their Lord and a tremendous reward.

Insha Allah ¹, we will present to you a book from Inner Horizons about a group among
them known as the Ahl a¡- uffah, whom personifies the current topic.
