Teaching Recording Self Assessment

Upon watching a recording of myself teaching, I immediately noticed some clear

differences from the first time I recorded and reflected. A major difference was my overall

demeanor; previously, out of nervousness, I had a tendency to speak very quickly and my pacing

was very fast. I noticed in this video that I appeared more grounded and confident than before. I

knew exactly where I was in the lesson, how I wanted to transition and was able to ask students

more questions to lead into our activities. I maintained good energy throughout, which helped

keep the students more engaged with modifications I made or questions I asked. I also improved

from last time mitigating off-task behaviors and unwarranted talking by redirecting focus. I feel

as though I am consistently improving in different ways, and my confidence has improved

immensely.

Going forward, I would particularly like to improve my clarity in instruction. It is

important that I am giving instruction and making modifications as clearly as possible in order to

maintain student engagement and further develop their understanding. I would like to continue to

adjust my pacing during lessons appropriately as needed for different classes, maintain my

grounding and focus as I teach a lesson, and offer more opportunities of different modalities for

students to interact with and develop understanding. I notice that sometimes I will forget to give

students a reference measure or to remind them of the section we are returning to, and I would

like to be more mindful and clear in that as I continue to learn in my student teaching

experiences. Overall, I am very happy with my progress, and am looking forward to the new

ways in which I will continue to develop my teaching skills.
