HOW TO USE PLIERS

Pliers are pincers with parallel, flat, and typically serrated surfaces, used chiefly for gripping
small objects or bending wire. The following 15 steps will help you be able to use pliers
effectively.
Tools and Materials Needed:
 Wire/small objects
 Pliers

NOTICE: Do not drop! Pliers might break and not grip properly. If damaged,
return to the manufacturer for replacement.
1. First, remove the pliers from the case.
2. Next, determine if pliers are the right tool for the job. Am I doing something where I
need them?
3. Then, check and make sure the pliers work properly and are straightened and not
broken.
4. Carefully make sure the handle casing is tightly fit on the metal handles and not loose.
5. Next, place your hand on the handles, gripping both sides.
6. Slowly open the jaws using the handles.
7. Carefully make sure that the pliers do not break when using them on an object.
8. Next, place the pliers on the object you are trying to pick up/bend.
9. Slowly close the jaws by gripping the handles shut.
10. Carefully make sure that the pliers are tightly gripping the object and won’t come loose
during the procedure.
11. Slowly bend the wire or pick up the object you grabbed.
12. Lastly, when you are satisfied with your work, loosen the jaws by using the handles.
13. If needed, repeat steps 4-9 if you desire to do more work with the pliers.
14. Carefully make sure that the pliers are still working and are not broken after your work.
15. Finally, when you are finished, return the pliers back to the case.
Pliers are one of the most useful tools in electrical work. Using pliers properly will ensure that
you are able to get the job done without any risks. Pliers are also a very useful tool to have in
your home, as they are used for many different tasks of handywork.
