In a town of monsters, young ones have one
day in October where they show neighbors
cool tricks in exchange for good treats!
They drop by each house for a visit,
Except for that one on top of the hill...

A new monster, Dragon, came this year.
He's practicing tricks and happy he's here.
His fellow monsters said hello,
then warned him about that one place not to go.

But what’s scary

about his tricks?
He asks hard questions
or else no treats!

We should be
the one
showing tricks.
I won't believe it till I hear it!
How about we start going
around getting our treats?
They went around town, filled up their
bags by amusing with tricks. Until...

I’m out of tricks!

And there’s one way to know more!
He flew and went up the hill,
And his new friends stood still until…
They heard a scream from afar!
They ran up fast and found the door ajar.
Fearing for their friend, The little
monsters said, trembling as they speak:

Can we please
help him with
your trick?
"What is all about this trick?
What I do is hardly magic!
Now where should we restart?"
Dared the mysterious wizard.
Wanting to get out soonest,
Dragon said "I can do it!"
The wizard stroked
his beard.

The little monsters gasped and

huddled for the last trick.
"This is what I have left. If I give away
two more, do I have any left at all?
Yes, you still have .

the WIzard's question)
Did we pass your tricks,
Mr. Wizard?

the worried monsters asked.

"Those are not tricks. They're all math

problems, you silly kids," said the Wizard.
? What's th

M
Math is short for
Mathematics. It's all
about numbers and
counting. I believe you
all passed my tricks...
I mean test.
So you won't
turn us into
little kids?

Where did you get that idea?

Math is magical but I don't have magic.
But aren't you
a wizard?
I am not THAT
wizard. I'm a
Math Wizard!

he said as he took
off his costume.
The monsters went "Hooray!"
They can finally enjoy their haul for the day.
The Math Wizard reminded them to practice their tricks,

and the monsters went home with more treats.
