Wave/Tidal Power

Wave Power:

A wave power turbine situated in water, uses change in air pressure caused
by the waves to turn the turbine and generate electricity, in a
nutshell/basically wave motion is used to compress air to drive a turbine

Advantages:

 Generating power from waves is a relatively harmless process, this

means that there are no greenhouse gasses produced
 It is a renewable method of power generations, this means that it won’t
run out/ exhaust

Disadvantages

 Requires a high initial investment/building cost

 Size of waves is unreliable so, electricity production is not constant
Potential locations
 Makran coastal areas eg Gwadar, Pasni, Ormara, Gadani etc.

Tidal Power

Tidal energy is a form of hydropower that works by harnessing the kinetic

energy created from the rise and fall of ocean tides and currents, also called
tidal flows, and turns it into usable electricity.

Advantages

 Provides a constant supply of power and is relatively non pollutant\

 Tides are predictable
Disadvantages

 Expensive to build
 Can destroy important wildlife habitats and could disrupt local
shipping if arrangements aren’t made

Potential locations

 The creek system of indus delta which extends over an area of 170 km

Future Projects

 There are no projects regarding wave or tidal power as of now
