Ans: The four sisters began reading the books at once.
2. Where had their mother gone when Meg and Jo came downstairs?
Ans: When Meg and Jo came downstairs their mother had gone visiting a poor
family.
3. Why did Beth mark 'Mother', and not 'M. M.', on the handkerchiefs?
Ans: As Margaret’s initials would also be M.M., Beth had written Mother on
her mother’s handkerchiefs, so that no one else could use her mother’s
handkerchief by mistake.
4. Why did Amy replace the bottle of cologne she had bought for her mother
with another?
Ans: Amy felt very mean to be giving a small bottle of cologne to her mother,
so she went and got it changed.
5. Describe the room in which the poor woman and her children lived.
Ans: a poor, miserable and cold room with no wood for fire and broken
windows through which the cold wind rushed in. The people in that room
looked pale, ill and hungry and tried to cuddle in under one old quilt.
