Effects of Elizabethan era on the work of

Shakespeare
Shakespeare’s works were greatly influence by Queen Elizabeth.
She changed society so that people like Shakespeare could be
successful. She inspired his “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” She
was interested in theatre which made it popular. She was a great
influence on Shakespeare’s work.

The specific way Queen Elizabeth changed society for Shakespeare

was the Arts. She was a great supporter of t arts; mainly she
supported plays and masques. The Puritans were not happy with
the theaters and shut down all the theatres in London. They claim
that the theaters were a major cause of the plague .The real reason
why they shut them down was because people were spending time
going to plays instead of praying. Queen Elizabeth reacted to this by
forming her own group of performers. Her goal was to bring the law
of theaters back into business for her people. William Shakespeare
was one of the greatest writers in England at the time and he wrote
plays for the general population of England. Queen Elizabeth
supported Shakespeare’s writing and works because she was
concerned with all members of society and not just royalty or
wealthy people. Overall, Queen Elizabeth’s reign had a positive
effect on the production of Shakespeare’s plays.

She inspired his play “A Midsummers Night’s Dream” by, making

people interested in that type of play. It is unusual but that is what
makes it interesting to all types of people. The play was
about, Hermia who refuses to follow her father Egeus instructions to
marry Demetrius, whom he has chosen for her, because she wishes
to marry another man named Lysander. In response, Egeus invokes
before Theseus an ancient Athenian law whereby a daughter must
marry the suitor chosen by her father, or else face death. Theseus
offers her another choice: lifelong chastity while worshiping the
goddess Diana as a nun. She made this play big and a big hit in 1590
Shakespeare mentioned her as a part of making the play big.
Another thing that people didn’t like is all the actors were played
my males; many people thought that was not appropriate.

Elizabeth was interested in theatre which made it popular because

she was royalty so people liked what she liked. Just like today how
we look up to celebrities and we copy what they do. Queen Elizabeth
was the person most looked up to during this time period. Here is a
little bit about her while she was Queen. Elizabeth set out to rule by
good counsel, and she depended heavily upon a group of trusted
advisers led by William Cecil and Baron Burghley. One of her first
moves as queen was the establishment of an English Protestant
church, of which she became the Supreme Governor.
This Elizabethan Religious Settlement later evolved into
today's Church of England. It was expected that Elizabeth would
marry and produce an heir so as to continue the Tudor line. She
never did, however, despite numerous courtships. As she grew older,
Elizabeth became famous for her virginity, and a cult grew up
around her who was celebrated in the portraits, pageants, and
literature of the day.

Overall, Elizabeth truly helped Shakespeare's plays thrive. She

made them popular and she influenced them greatly, also she made
his plays seem like no others. She was a great impact on
Shakespeare, to this day she is known for that.
