Khái niệm: Trạng từ là biểu thức có chức năng như bổ nghĩa của các yếu tố khóa
trong mệnh đề. Chúng có thể cung cấp một loạt các thông tin

Sự hình thành: trạng từ có thể được hình thành từ tính từ theo hậu tố của chúng. Sự
hình thành trạng từ có các trường hợp khác nhau như:
*Thông thường: trạng từ được hình thành bằng cách them “-ly” vào cuối tính từ
Ex: fluent → fluently
quick → quickly

 Đối với một số tính từ có tận cùng bằng “ly”, ta lập trạng từ theo cấu trúc:
In a/an+adj-ly+way
- Friendly => in a friendly manner
- Timely => in a timely manner
Ex: We offered her some orange juice in a friendly manner

 Một số ví dụ về trạng từ
This exercise is very hard. (Bài tập này rất khó.)
Ta thấy trong câu này “hard” đóng vai trò là một tính từ.
- She works very hard. (Cô ấy làm việc rất chăm chỉ.)
Trong câu này “hard” lại đóng vai trò là một trạng từ bổ nghĩa cho động từ “work”.

 Position of adverb - Vị trí của trạng từ
1. Trước động từ thường: (nhất là những trạng từ chỉ tần suất: often, always, usually,
seldom…)
VD: They often get up at 6am

2. Giữa trợ động từ và động từ thường

VD: I have + recently + finished my homework

3. Sau động từ tobe/seem/feel/look … và trước tính từ: tobe/seem/feel/look…+ adv +

adj
VD: She is very nice

4. Đứng sau “Too”: V(thường) + Too + adv

VD: The teacher speaks to quickly

5. Đứng trước “enough”: V(thường) + too + adv

VD: The teacher speaks slowly enough for us to understand

6. Ở trong cấu trúc so…that: V(thường) + so + adv + that

VD: Jack drove so fast that he caused an accident

7. Đứng cuối câu

VD: He doctor told me to breathe in slowly

8. Thường đứng một mình ở đầu câu bổ nghĩa cho cả câu
