Grammar 1 virtual test 1 (re-sit test)

 We set off on the kite-skis, and straight away we were travelling fast. In the first hour, we´d gone
eight miles. I thought we could do 60 miles today, but this afternoon the wind dropped, so we
decided to stop and put up camp. I´d never kited before. It was my courage that moved me
forward.

 Richard could use bus lanes, which was great, but he had to be careful not to crash into the buses.
He hated buses and he thought it would be difficult to cycle among them, they were horrible. When
he saw a bus coming, he became nervous and started to sweat. He knew it would not be easy but
he wanted to give it a try.

 The thing that really helped me to improve my English was having an Australian boyfriend. As he
didn´t speak any Spanish, we spoke English all the time and I improved quickly. Sometimes I had to
look up words in the dictionary but he was patient. It was incredible how my language was enriched
in a short time.

 Listening to the radio while driving makes the journey more enjoyable. However, the driver may not
be interested in all the songs that are played on the radio. If the driver needs to concentrate, the
copilot should turn the volume down and allow him to listen to what he likes. Talking to the driver
helps him to pass the time and stops him from falling asleep.

 Farah always shaves his head before a race. This attitude leads him to have confidence and a sense
of control, which might help to achieve good results. A recent study showed that people who were
given a golf ball that they were told was lucky played better than those who used a normal ball.

 In another experiment, people who were allowed to carry their lucky charm performed better at
memory tests than people without one. The researchers concluded that superstitions make people
feel confident, which makes them perform better. Some other people think that these experiments
are nonsense and that it is useless to believe that an object may have a positive effect on us.

 The survey shows that people invent stories to make their lives appear more interesting than they
really are. The most popular lies people tell are that they went to a party or went away for the
weekend.

 She is thinking about moving to live in Spain, where the government has decided that children
under the age of 18 have an obligation to participate in family life and that includes doing house
work. Doing the cleaning is a good exercise to stay healthy and also to have a clean house.

 Then we went down again, and when we got back to the car, I wanted to get another photo, but I
couldn´t figure out where my phone was. I thought that it was probably at the top of the mountain,
where we had had lunch.
