Test Note .

• This is a qualitativereal-time PCR test for the detection of Chikungunya virus RNA in the blood or CSF.
• Chikungunya virus is a single stranded RNA-enveloped virus transmitted by mosquito borne (genus Aedes, mainly A. aegypti and
albopictus) Alphavirus which belongs to family Togaviridae.
• This is a highly sensitive and specific test and should be performed in individuals presenting 1 to 7 days following onset of symptoms.
• A positive result (“Detected”) establishes a diagnosis of chikungunya virus infection. A negative result (“Not Detected”) should
prompt chikungunya virus serologic testing (after ≥8 days).
• For individuals presenting ≥8 days following onset of symptoms, chikungunya virus serologic testing (MAC ELISA or Sandwich
ELISA) should be performed.
• Negative result does not rule out presence of infection and can be due to various factors like PCR inhibition, very early infection etc.
• The limit of detection of this test is 1 copy/ μl.
• Test done by CE certified IVD approved kit. This is not a home brew test.
