KUNDIMAN COMMUNICATIONS CORPORATION


MR. LONELY

The Kundiman Communication Corporation (KCC) is a local company with more than 2,000
persons in its payroll. The company’s top management is composed of the President, the Vice
President for Operations, and the Vice President for Administration.
A member of the staff, Engineer Lorenzo de Guzman an electronics engineering graduate, has
just received an order from his immediate superior, the VP for Operations, to head the newly
built telecommunication facility in Antipolo, Rizal. So far, he is the only company personnel
identified with the new facility. He was given three months to make the facility operational.
Engineer de Guzman appraised that for the Antipolo unit to operate, it will require the services
of a number of persons skilled in the various activities that will be undertaken.
As he has been working with KCC for ten years (five years in the field and five years in the head
office) Engineer de Guzman is familiar with many aspects of the firm’s operation. Some of the
supervisors and three of the key officers are his friends.
Engineer de Guzman felt that the various trainings KCC provided him had really prepared him
well for the technical aspects of his new job. His exposure to the different units at the head
office will also be useful in some ways to the administrative aspects of his position. However,
his trainings and experiences have not provided him with the expertise to recruit qualified
persons to occupy the various positions that will be created. To begin with, he does not even
have information on the number and nature of the positions to be created.
As he was inspecting the building in Antipolo where he will hold office, Engineer de Guzman
wondered if he could convince top management to transfer some of his acquaintances in the
head office to his new assignment.
Engineer de Guzman knows that his next promotion will depend much in the success of the new
facility under his direction. He thought that if he could only get the right persons, his job would
not be too difficult. With this in mind, he pondered on what his first move must be.
Summarized Facts:
Engineer de Guzman will be leading the newly built telecommunication facility in Antipolo Rizal.

He needs a number of persons skilled in various activities to make the facility operational.

KCC trainings provided him a grasp of the technical aspects of his new job. But did not include
the expertise to recruit qualified persons.

Engineer de Guzman knows that his next promotion will depend much in the success of the new
facility.

Problem:
How will Engineer De Guzman recruit qualified persons to occupy the various positions that will
be created, if his trainings and experiences have not provided him with the experience to do
so?

How will he be able to know the information about the number of needed personnel and their
job descriptions?

Objectives:
To recruit the qualified and skilled personnel for the newly created facilities.

To acquire the needed trainings and experiences in hiring and recruitment.

To know the number of positions to be created.

Areas of consideration:
Demand will increase because there will be a new branch that will serve as a plus factor that
entitles the company’s reliabilities.

It will help them increase the edge of competitiveness and surely it will cost them the capital,
but in a commercial way.

The capability of Engr. De Guzman to recruit new personnel.


Suggested course of action:

Ask the management the numbers and positions that are needed.

Seek help from his friends and ask them for their referred professionals that will occupy the
designated jobs.

Let him gain experiences and knowledge in recruiting through certain seminars offered
elsewhere.

Study and learn the specified position needed to be hired.

Conclusions and recommendations:

Poor communications with the top management of the company may lead to this problem.
By solving this, it could help him a lot with the specified number of employees needed to be
hired.

Proper selection of the staffs is an important matter.

Imply proper selection screening process.

Determine those qualified job specifications.

And conduct test for incoming employees and let them undergo to trainings.
