Market Visit: Visited Areas/Markets (Modern Trade) for RTD Tea.

DNCC Market - Gulshan 1

Various imported flavored drinks are available there. In some cases, Ready to Drink (RTD) Coffees have a
presence. But no RTD. Traders also don't have any idea relating to this category.

Gulshan2: Dhali, Dedar, Shwapno, Unimart Gulshan

There is some flavored RTD Tea of Snapple & RTD Coffee at Dhali & Dedar. Shwapno outlets don’t keep
this category of products. It seems that the word “RTD Tea” is unfamiliar from the shop assistants' end.
At Unimart, there was an insignificant volume of RTD Green Tea. There were various types of RTD Coffee
there.

Banani: Shwapno, Banani Kacha Bazar

Visited prominent outlets in the Banani Kacha Bazar area. None of them were keeping RTD Tea. Some of
them namely Gemini stated that sometimes they keep Lipton RTD Tea. But currently, it’s not available
there. On the Shwapno (Banani 11) didn’t keep RTD Tea or barely heard of this category.

Dhanmondi: Unimart Dhanmondi, Shwapno, Meena Bazar, Almas Super Shop, Agora

At Dhanmondi Area only in Unimart, there are insignificant amount of RTD Flavored Tea & RTD Green
Tea have a presence. There, RTD Coffee has a moderate presence. Apart from Unimart, other Super
Shops don’t keep RTD Tea.

Wari: Unimart Wari, Meena Bazar, Shwapno

Only Unimart keeps some RTD Flavored Tea & RTD Green Tea. Other outlets of this area don’t keep such
a category.

Mohammadpur: Prince Bazar, Meena Bazar, Shwapno

Among the visited outlet's none of them are keeping RTD Tea. RTD Coffee has an insignificant presence
there.

48 modern trade super shops/mega shops have been visited to search RTD Tea. Among them, only 5
Super Shops were found keeping RTD Flavored Tea & RTD Green Tea. Almost half of the outlets were
keeping RTD Coffee. Chain Outlets like Shwapno, Agora, Meena Bazar don’t keep RTD Tea or they are
unfamiliar with this category.
RTD Tea Import Data- Bangladesh from Govt. Sources

 Based on discussion with some local traders and importers, sole distributors of a foreign
manufacturer, piloting desk research, visited & consulted with the official in prime authorities
responsible for import data. We have gathered data of import of 2018-19 & 2019-20 from
Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS), Bangladesh Bank, Bangladesh Foreign Trade Institute &
Customs. Finally we analyzed & extracted data collected from the stated sources. The key
finding is as follows-

 Local demand for the product is fulfilled by import. Local traders import these products along
with other low levied products or some companies are selling this by sole distributorship.

 Most of the canned products (RTD Tea, RTD Coffee, and non-carbonated beverages) are
marketed by traders or commercial importers to the super shops mostly in the metro areas.

 RTD Tea is being imported in less quantity & so, it has no separate HS code & without a separate
HS Code, it is difficult to know the exact import data. This would mean, this value amount is
comprised of all the subcategories under this code.

 Currently RTD Tea is being imported under various HS Code specifically under the liquid form in
tetra pack category.

 Non-carbonated soft drinks (including fruit nectars, fruit-juice beverages for refreshment, ready-
to-drink tea (RTD tea) and ready-to-drink coffee (RTD coffee), non-alcoholic beer, flavored
water, value-added waters; excluding non-carbonated soft drinks) are being imported in various
forms like-Coffee, Tea, Mate, and Spices, Extract/Essence of Coffee/Tea, Tea, Whether or not
Flavored category.
