Please cover the following topics when revising the lectures I have delivered.

1. Diabetes
 Clinical features of diabetes, and how Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes may differ in clinical
manifestations.
 Laboratory investigations of diabetes and diagnostic criteria for diabetes
 Complications of diabetes, including acute and chronic complications
 Laboratory tests used in monitoring of diabetes, including the principles, the
advantages and disadvantages of each of these tests

2. Thyroid disorders
 The synthesis and secretion of thyroid hormones and their regulation
 The functions (biological effects) of the thyroid hormones
 The thyroid function tests and their clinical applications
 Hyperthyroidism/thyrotoxicosis: definition and classification, key laboratory features of
each type of hyperthyroidism
o Graves disease: clinical features, laboratory investigations
 Hypothyroidism: clinical features and laboratory investigations (focusing on primary
hypothyroidism)

3. Clinical uses of blood components


 Describe specific blood components, including the preparation and composition of
each component, and the clinical use of each component
