RESCUE CENTER:

Very close to Iquitos is the

Amazon Rescue Center, a kind
of orphanage for manatees and
other Amazonian aquatic
animals that are in danger of
extinction due to their
indiscriminate hunting.
These animals are rescued,
rehabilitated and in most
cases released into their
natural habitats. Here, many
species of the Amazon are
also studied in order to
protect their ecosystems and
make the inhabitants of the
area aware of the importance
of their conservation.
