1 Safety regulations
1.1 Introduction
Compliance with the general safety regulations, the regulations and legal requirements applicable to
the specific installation site, and the regulations outlined in this User Manual is essential during
every phase of the lifecycle of the transformer, without exception.
These operating instructions contain important danger, warning and safety instructions that must be
observed by the user.
This transformer is only intended for the defined application use described in the User Manual
Operation outside the definition of proper use is not permitted, and in the case of non-compliance
with the described safety measures any warranty or liability claims against Siemens Weiz will be
invalidated.
This transformer must be transported, installed, commissioned, operated, maintained and disposed
of exclusively by qualified personnel. It is recommended that these activities are supervised by the
operator personnel.
The qualified personnel must be authorized to perform this work and must be familiar with the
procedures for handling transformers and the safety-related instructions in this User Manual.
This symbol indicates a low level of risk. Ignoring the safety instructions
will result in a low level of danger or possibility of danger for personnel,
environment and property.
Lifting tackle (ropes, chains, hooks) and lifting gear (lifting beams, crossbars)
must be inspected before use. It is only permitted to use approved and
suitable lifting gear.
Before any work starts on the transformer, the "5 Safety Rules" must be
applied:
1. Isolate
2. Lockout and tagout to prevent reconnection
3. Check that the equipment is at zero potential
4. Perform grounding and short-circuiting
5. Provide protection by covers or barriers for any neighboring live parts
Compliance with the safety instructions of this User Manual is essential under
all circumstances.
For all activities involved in the lifecycle of the transformer, the applicable
safety regulations must be observed regarding the wearing of personal
protective clothing and equipment.
Hermetically sealed transformers are equipped with a corrugated wall tank. The change in volume of
the insulating fluid, resulting from the temperature rise of the transformer during operation, is
compensated by expansion of the corrugated wall.
The hermetically sealed system ensures that there is no contact between the insulating fluid and the
ambient air.
The corrugated walls of transformers with built-on conservators can be beaded for the purposes of
surface bracing. With this type of tank, the expansion in the insulating fluid is transferred to the
conservator.
The corrugated wall tank is welded onto two wheel brackets. In accordance with the transport
concept the wheels are either mounted, or supplied disassembled and separately with the
transformer.
The corrugated wall tank has an M12 ground connection. The screws of the ground connection are
painted red. All the main components of the transformer that are removable are connected to the
ground potential of the corrugated wall tank by means of ribbon cable.
Corrugated wall tanks are equipped as standard with a main ground connection. This ground
connection is labelled with a ground symbol.
The tank is sealed with a sheet steel cover. This can be chamfered or flat. The thickness of the
sheet steel and the bracing is dimensioned for the prospective stresses during operation and
transport.
The electric sheet steel is grain-oriented, silicon-alloyed and cold-rolled. Depending on the quality,
subsequent laser treatment may be required.
The standard three-phase core comprises a top and bottom yoke and three legs. The core is fixed in
the transformer by means of a clamping structure that is connected to the transformer cover via
threaded rods or steel bands.
The core laminations are coated with special insulation on both sides. The yoke and leg laminations
are cut free of burrs and coated using the STEP-LAP technique to reduce no-load losses and
operating noise as far as possible.
The winding conductors can be constructed from round, flat or strip material. The material of the
high-voltage and low-voltage windings can be copper or aluminum.
The insulation material of the windings is partially coated with epoxy resin. In the course of the
drying process, the layers of the winding bond to form a compact winding block.
The layer insulation is wedge-shaped to counteract the stress on the winding caused by the
alternating voltage.
All connecting leads in the transformer are designed with short-circuit protection and sufficient
breakdown strength.
Unless an on-load tap changer is installed, the tap changer is only permitted
to be operated in the zero-voltage state.

2.5 Bushings
The high-voltage and low-voltage windings are connected in the transformer according to the
specified vector group and routed out of the transformer via terminal leads and bushings typically
located in the transformer cover.
Depending on the customer requirements, the bushings can be designed as straight or angled,
porcelain or plug-type bushings.
To provide protection against electric shock, the bushings can be implemented with voltage-isolated
covers (terminal boxes) or as plug-type bushings with proetction against electric shock, as required.
In both cases, direct access to live bushing components is prevented.
Mineral oil, silicon oil and insulating fluids based on ester are in general use.
Mineral oils are available in inhibited and non-inhibited form. Inhibited mineral oils are oils that have
been artificially aged to give greater resistance to aging. Non-inhibited oils age in a controlled and
predictable manner under constant load.
Silicon oils are only used when expressly requested by the customer, due to their poor levels of
viscosity and low environmental compatibility.
Insulating fluids based on ester have excellent environmental compatibility and are preferred in
applications subject to high environmental requirements.

APPLICATION
The T-10 pressure safety valve is employed as a safety element in
distribution transformers of low rating. In the event of an explosion-
type pressure increase of the transformer tank, the excess pressure
must be relieved immediately in order to avoid damage to the tank.
CONSTRUCTION
The T-10 pressure safety valve consists of a brass cap, a conical valve
body, a rubber seal between the cap and body and a coil spring
holding the whole system. As soon as relief pressure is reached, the
valve cap lifts off and the excess pressure is relieved. The valve then
shuts itself down again automatically.

Transformers Weiz
3.0 Delivery
Lifting tackle (ropes, chains, hooks) and lifting gear (lifting beams, crossbars)
must be inspected before use. It is only permitted to use approved and
suitable lifting gear.
Transformers are only permitted to be lifted using the lifting eyes attached to
the transformer cover.
The angle between the legs of the lifting gear must be ≤ 60°.
The minimum permissible spacing between crossbar and transformer is 300 mm.
These transportation methods are likely to cause damage to the paint finish of the transformer.
Siemens Weiz will not accept any warranty claims from the customer for surface damage caused by
this transportation method.
The angle between the legs of the lifting gear must be ≥ 60°.
Unless special packaging is provided, the following minimum requirements apply to lashing
transformers onto trucks:
To prevent tilting of transformers, they must be placed lengthwise on the truck. Wooden blocks
or pallets must be placed under the wheel brackets which, in turn, must be placed on anti-slip
matting.
To prevent the transformers from sliding across the loading surface of the
truck, the transformer must not make contact with the loading surface at any
point.
Only lashing straps may be used for securing the transformers to the loading surface.
At least 2 lashing straps must be used for each transformer, which must be attached to the
fastening points provided on the frame of the loading surface on the truck.
The lashing straps must be lashed through the lifting eyes located on the transformer cover and
around areas away from the corrugated walls of the tank. To prevent chafe points from occurring
where the straps change direction, edge protection must be inserted between the transformer
and the strap.
Lashing across the horizontal stiffening bar of the corrugated wall is not permitted, and would
result in damage to the transformer tank.
If lashing eyes are mounted on the transformer tank, they must be used to secure the
transformer.
It is not permitted to lift the transformer using the lashing eyes on the
transformer tank, and this would result in damage to the transformer tank.
The straps must be tightened using the ratchet attached to the lashing strap and secured using a
strap lock.
No matter how much care is taken, transport damage cannot be completely ruled out. The customer
must inspect the transformers for damage and leaks on delivery.
The delivery documents must be compared with the scope of goods received.
Any deviations from the contractually agreed scope of supply must be reported to Siemens
Weiz.
By signing the delivery note, the customer or their authorized representative confirms that the
transformer was free of damage on delivery.
3.4 Storage
The ambient temperatures applicable to the storage of transformers correspond to the maximum
permissible ambient temperatures during operation and are stated on the data sheet. Siemens
Weiz transformers are designed as standard for operation at temperatures between -25° C and
+40°C.
If transformers are delivered in packaging, this must not be removed during storage.
It must be located at a suitable distance from water courses and open sewers.
For transformers with built-on conservator, the silica gel of the dehumidifier must be checked
annually and replaced if necessary.
Siemens Weiz transformers are supplied with wheels separately, or without, as required by the
customer.
Any data required for designing and rating the installation site, such as overall dimensions, spacing
of fixing holes, cable entry positions, or power losses will be supplied by Siemens Weiz.
The foundations must be level, sufficiently large and rated for the static load.
In the case of outdoor installation, rain water must be diverted away from the transformer
foundations.
Collection troughs, hollows or basins for insulating fluids must be implemented in accordance
with the national regulations of the country of operation.
Unrestricted access to the rating plate, protective devices and display instruments must be
ensured.
For transformers without protective casings, compliance with the external clearances specified in
IEC 60076 is essential.
For installation indoors, depending on the power losses, an air flow of at least
3 – 4 m3 / min must be guaranteed.
The wheels of transformers must be equipped with clamping wedges or blocking devices.
When installation of the transformer has been completed, it must be inspected for damage to the
corrosion protection, especially on the lifting and pulling eyes.
Before any work starts on the transformer, the "5 Safety Rules" must be
applied:
1. Isolate
2. Lockout and tagout to prevent reconnection
3. Check that the equipment is at zero potential
4. Perform grounding and short-circuiting
5. Provide protection by covers or barriers for any neighboring live parts
The following points regarding the electrical connection of transformers must be observed:
Electrical connection of the transformer can be made on the high-voltage and low-voltage ends
via the bushings, copper busbars, terminals or plug-in sockets.
In all connection systems, supply lines must be fitted with strain relief. Inadequate strain relief
causes forces to be applied to the bushings and results in damage to the bushings and in
leakages.
If a protective casing is mounted on the transformer, the cable glands of the entry plate must not
be used as strain relief for the supply lines. Support for the deadweight of the cables must be
provided by the customer.
The bending radii specified by the cable manufacturer must be complied with.
Dirt or condensate deposits resulting from transport or storage must be removed before
electrical connection.
Before commissioning, the transformer must be grounded through the main grounding point on
the wheel brackets. If the transformer cover and transformer tank are not connected by a
grounding strap, the transformer cover must also be grounded.
For porcelain bushings, the cable lug is clamped between the two nuts at the end of the bushing
(1) and (2). Nut (3) must not be loosened, because this would cause the insulating fluid to drain.

M16x2 30 Nm
4.2 Commissioning
The following points must be observed when commissioning the transformers:
Before commissioning starts, the transformer must be inspected for leaks. If any leaks are
detected, the transformer must not be commissioned. The oil level must be checked.
The position of the tap changer must be checked. The selected position must match the current
line voltage.
The relevant position for the voltage level is indicated on the rating plate.
For hermetically sealed transformers with temperature monitoring equipment, the maximum
permissible oil temperature on the rating plate must be observed.
Before commissioning, the transformer must be grounded through the main grounding point on
the carriage frame. If the transformer cover and transformer tank are not connected by a
grounding strap, the transformer cover must also be grounded.
It must be checked that grounding straps are installed for components and connected correctly.
For conservator transformers and transformers with an open system, the transport protection
must be removed from the conservator and vent nozzle before commissioning. Any supplied
dehumidifier must be installed.
It must be checked that the high-voltage and low-voltage connections have been installed
correctly. The tightening torques 4.1.2 must be observed.
If protective devices are mounted on the transformer, it must be checked that they are
functioning correctly before commissioning starts.
In cases where a Buchholz relay is installed, the transport restraint must be removed.
Before the voltage is applied, all covers, entry plates and caps must be installed.
During operation the bushings and all live parts have to be free from pollution.
For transformers in parallel operation, the transmission ratios, including the tapping range, must
lie within the permissible tolerances. The matching short-circuit voltages must also lie within the
permissible tolerances of ± 10%.
The ratio of rated power is not permitted to exceed 1:3. The vector group must be identical.
Transformers with the hour digits 5 and 11 are the exception. These can operate in parallel with
each other provided that the terminals are connected as follows:

The Siemens Weiz service team must be contacted if the insulating fluid level falls below the
permitted level.
6.0 Disposal
The insulating fluid used in the transformer can present a danger to the environment if it enters the
ground or water courses.
The data sheets supplied for the insulating fluids and all other built-on components must be
consulted with regard to disposal of the transformer.
The manufacturer and trademark of the insulating fluid used are noted on the transformer rating
plate.
To ensure full warranty in the even of a fault or damage, all the safety
instructions of this User Manual must be complied with.
In the event of a fault or damage, the transformer must be isolated from the
power supply immediately to prevent secondary damage.
The warranty periods and warranty conditions are stated in the contract documentation.
Siemens Weiz will take no warranty in case of any changes on the transformer without approval
