INTRODUCTION TO LAW

COURSE SYLLABUS 2022

DESCRIPTION:

In this introductory course, the student discovers the basic concepts of law and the history of the
American system of jurisprudence and juristic theory that originated from, and was developed and
formulated through, the common law of England and is now recognized as an organic part ofthe
jurisprudence of most of the United States. Students are introduced to important legal terminology,
basic legal analysis, and practice of the law. An orientation to legal writing is presented with an
emphasis on case briefing skills.

OBJECTIVE:

The student develop their analytical writing skills, case analysis, and legal philosophy andreasoning.

CLASS SCHEDULE AND CONTENT:

The class will consist of lecture, discussion and note-taking.

FINAL GRADE:

A passing final grade will consist of attending at least three of the four sessions. Grading for this course
will be on a Pass/Fail basis.

REQUIRED MATERIAL:

There is no required material for this class. Handouts will be provided.
