THE PHILIPPINE CONSTITUTION

CONSTITUTION
- A set of rules that guides how a country, country, state or other political organization works.
- Like a rule book for the government
- Contains branches, powers, responsibilities and the rights of the people
- There is a punished if violated
- Supreme law of land
- no one, not even the president can go against the constitution
- February 2, 1987 – Constitution Day

IMPORTANCE OF CONSTITUTION
- Maintain law and order
- Impose rules and regulations
- Protect individual rights and freedom
- Limits the power of the government

EVOLUTION OF THE PHILIPPINE CONSTITUTION


- 1899 – Malolos Constitution
- 1935 – Commonwealth Government
- 1943 – Japanese Government Only these 3 constitutions were
- 1973 – Marcos Administration effectively governed the country
- 1986 – Freedom Constitution
- 1987 – Present Constitution

MALOLOS CONSTITUTION (also called 1899 constitution)


- Philippines was under the Spanish rule for 333 years
- Pact of Biak-na-bato Spanish government
