Fo Guang Shan is a Taiwan-based transnational Chinese Mahyna

Buddhist organization and monastic order that practices Humanistic Buddhism. Fo
Guang Shan was founded by respected Master Hsing Yun in 1967. Fo Guang Shan
Monastery, the biggest Buddhist monastery in Taiwan, is located in Dashu District,
Kaohsiung. The organization is also one of Taiwan's major charitable organizations. The
Buddha's Light International Association is the organization's lay equivalent.
If you are wondering what this particular religious organization(Fo
Guang Shan) accomplished in the past generations. Fo Guang Shan, an international
Buddhist organization, based in Taiwan, holds a short-term monastic cultivation retreat
regularly, which is a week-long residential program aimed to offer laity members a
chance for rigorous development. Recent contributions to the anthropology of ethics have
highlighted clear differences between organized, systematic ethics, particularly those
linked with religious traditions, and the compromise and accommodation that come from
the necessities of everyday life.
Fo Guang Shan's goals are to promote the ideals of Humanistic Buddhism
and to encourage peace and harmony among all people. The founder has spearheaded this
effort by offering educational opportunities, sponsoring cultural events, engaging in
community service, and writing and teaching widely on the Buddhist path of wisdom and
compassion.
