Exposure to hazard is treated as given and is an implicit element. The

vulnerability element is perceived as the interactive effects of the social
and physical aspects of a system (e.g., urban) regarding the causal process
of hazards. The Concept map views that the total vulnerability of a
community depends on physical, social, and existing coping capacity
attributes or the response and recovery, and therefore, the calculation of
the total vulnerability should consider these elements simultaneously. Risk
is conceptualized as the product of hazard and vulnerability. To minimize
the effects of disasters, it is imperative to take appropriate measures to
reduce vulnerability rather than risk.

What I Have Learned

1. Physical and Socio-economic vulnerability are present in this
situation. Physical in a way that the entrances and exits have been
blocked off causing me difficulties to leave out from the school
building. Soci0-economic in a way that the signal is down which I
can’t reach out in obtaining news and assistance to my family at
the same time.
(SOCIOECONOMIC, PHYSICAL)
2. Socioeconomic vulnerability is present in this situation because I
was not informed where the evacuation center located in which the
local authorities are lacking the ability to properly circulate the
information needed for the citizens.
(SOCIOECONOMICIC, ENVIRONMENTAL)
3. Physical Vulnerability is present in this situation due to the fact
that our house is full of several vases and portraits which all of
these are risks of getting injured and bruised if those things tend
to fall or drop on a person technically.
(PHYSICAL, ENVIRONMENTAL)
4. As I what observed, Socioeconomic is present in this situation
because most of the roads are flooded and unable to proceed in
which the government should have taken actions and considerations
in creating excellent roadways before the massive flood happened.
Second, the signal is failing, making him have a hard time calling
his office mates and us as his family in which the
telecommunication.
(SOCIOECONOMIC, ENVIRONMENTAL)
5. What happened to Luzon is an example of socioeconomic vulnerability
since the pandemic has brought a lot of negative effects to the
people which prevent us from roaming outside, especially me as a
person who’s really susceptible to the virus. This pandemic will
also affect the economic stability of Luzon in terms of growth and
development which might result in adverse effects to the livelihood
and financial resources of the people living there.
(SOCIOECONOMIC, PHYSICAL)

2. Rather than remaining in the service, I would prioritize the safety of

my family. I used to go there because losing loved ones is a painful
scenario that any human could have, and I cannot afford to lose my
family because of it. They are my source of motivation and inspiration
in life. Furthermore, losing them would not be the same as losing the
way I lived and used to, thus it is preferable to lose a single
material rather than a family member who is irreplaceable and
important.
3. It is critical to identify the elements in our environment that are
vulnerable to risks in order for us to be vigilant and well-informed
about the dangers the situations that surround our location. This will
broaden our understanding. Technically, disasters such as significant
injury and death can be avoided. Furthermore, a lack of concern about
the hazards may result in a tragic outcome that must be prevented as
soon as possible before something terrible occurs.
