USER-CENTRED DESIGN

TASK 1.2 INTRODUCTION TO PROJECT

Name:

Tutorial:

Aim
[In your own words, describe what we are trying to achieve for the users described in the
UCD Project Brief]

[Note: Delete material in square brackets (i.e., [text]), including this note!]

1 Context of Use
Users

[Identify two or more user groups (e.g. for Canvas, one user group is Student, and
another is Teacher) and provide a brief description of each.]

Goals

[What will the users want to do with the product being prototyped? What problems are
they currently having achieving their goal/s? Try to identify high level goals (e.g., ‘Pass
Unit’), rather than tasks (e.g., ‘Watch lecture video’).]

Environment

[Physical Environment: For example, describe where will the users will physically use
the product (e.g., home, office, factory, tractor etc), list any special constraints (e.g., high
noise, low light, mobile, restricted space etc)?

Technical and Artefacts: For example, describe the technology and artefacts users
have access to (e.g., software, internet, and hardware).

Social Environment: Will the users interact with other people or organisations when
using the software (e.g. friends, family, work mates, government organisations etc)?
Briefly describe the type of interaction.]

2 Application of UCD principles

[Choose THREE of the following ISO UCD principles (leave the ones you don’t do blank).
For each of your chosen principles:

 briefly describe the principle in your own words, and

 list examples of Project Tasks that relate to principle (See UCD Task Schedule,
UCD Cheat Sheet)]

1 The design is based upon an explicit understanding of users, tasks and

environment
