Glossary of Frequently Used Terms:

Auto Correction:
When using the SmartGuard™ feature, your pump will automatically deliver a correction bolus to
help maximize your time in range.

Basal Insulin:
Insulin that is continuously delivered by your pump to meet your body’s needs between meals and
while you’re sleeping.

Blood Glucose or BG for Short:

The sugar carried by the blood to provide energy to the body. Blood glucose is what you measure
with those finger sticks!

Bolus Insulin:
Insulin that is delivered by your pump to cover the food you eat, or to treat a high blood sugar.

Bolus Wizard™ Feature:

Calculates an estimated bolus based on a blood glucose reading and the number of carbohydrates
entered.

Continuous Glucose Monitoring or CGM for Short:

A tool that uses a glucose sensor that is placed under the skin to continuously measure the
amount of glucose in your interstitial fluid. Interstitial fluid is the fluid that surrounds the cells in
the body.

Correction Bolus:
Insulin used to lower high glucose down to target level.

Food Bolus:
A boost of insulin that covers an expected rise in glucose levels from carbohydrates.

Infusion Set:
Insulin travels from the pump through the infusion set into the body. This includes the tubing that
makes that travel possible.
Ready, Set, Go!

Infusion Site:
The part of your body where the infusion set is inserted.

Manual Mode:
Everyone starts in Manual Mode. Anytime you are not in the SmartGuard™ feature, that means
you are in Manual Mode.

Meter:
An alternative term for any blood glucose meter.

Notifications:
These are alarms, alerts, reminders and messages to keep you informed.

Reservoir:
The small container that is filled with insulin and inserted into the insulin pump. It connects to the
infusion set.

Sensor:
The small part of the continuous glucose monitoring system that you insert just below your skin to
measure glucose levels in your interstitial fluid. You change the sensor about every 7 days.
Interstitial fluid is the fluid that surrounds the cells in the body.

Sensor Glucose or SG for Short:

Glucose that is present in the interstitial fluid of your body and is measured by a glucose sensor.
Interstitial fluid is the fluid that surrounds the cells in the body.

SmartGuard™ Feature:
This is the feature that automatically controls the basal insulin delivery and auto correction
delivery to help keep your sensor glucose within a certain range.

Transmitter:
This is a device that connects to the glucose sensor. It collects data that is measured by the sensor
and wirelessly sends this data to the insulin pump. Your transmitter has a warranty of 1 year, so
don’t lose it or throw it away.
