BVE/3-11 REFLECTION #2

Ethics and morality are nearly had the same definition mainly the good and right,
sometimes interchangeably but both are normative and imperative. But morality is part
of the ethics. Ethics is defined as the subjective perspective and decision that a person
has to make in a specific situation. It tells us what is morally good and right based on a
situation and a persons’ character, we can say that it is more on an individual
assessment of values or a guiding principles. While morality is an imperative like what I
have mentioned, it actually describes what a person is doing which should be good
accordingly. It is actually a set of norms that actually came from a group of people or
can be from an individuals’ perception about what is right or wrong. Both has something
to do with intervening individuals decision but what I think is the main difference of two
is that ethics gives emphasis on what is good or evil while and moral gives emphasis on
what is right and wrong and we can simply put that morals are imposed by society,
culture, or religion, while ethics are chosen by the individual.

Moral reasoning is basically a decision or a moral judgment. To decide what to do, one
must make moral judgments about what one ought to do. In order for us to decide and
do good and fairly, we are guided with different philosophical basis on moral reasoning
the Natural Law, Fairness Approach, Utilitarianism, Deontological, Altruism, Virtue
Ethics, and many more.

Martin Luther King, Jr. said, “Intelligence plus character – that is the goal of real
education,” As a future values education teacher we are bound to teach our students
moral behaviors and values. This values and behaviors include respect and
responsibility to others and to yourself. As a teacher we should be grounded and well
learned with different theories that we can teach to our students to guide them in their
moral reasoning. With this, we can imply that moral reasoning is important to Values
education, because values education are not just the teaching of right behaviors but
also a subject that teaches the students to take a responsible decisions in every
dilemmas they are in, and the ability to engage effectively with moral dilemmas that they
will face in their everyday lives.
