MORAL ISSUES

As we progress and become more globalized, we have the ability to improve and upgrade
as a country, to keep up with the times, and to adapt to a constantly changing world environment.
These changes, which were also brought about by humans, cause problems in areas where these
actions are lacking. A number of incidents have been reported in which humans have engaged in
criminal, immoral, and unethical behavior. Several moral issues plague the country as a result of
poverty, a lack of indoctrination or training, or a lack of a system to discipline people for
unethical behavior, as well as a failure on the part of educational institutions, churches, and
government institutions to instill good moral character in the people.

Moral issues such extrajudicial killings, torture and terrorism deteriorates the right of every
human. In fact it has been reported the increase number of people being abused and killed
without having their due process. In the Philippines, the human rights crisis started when the
“War on Drugs” of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte has started. On news article of World Report
2019, according to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), 4,948 suspected drug
users and dealers died during police operations from July 1, 2016 to September 30, 2018. But
this does not include the thousands of others killed by unidentified gunmen. According to the
Philippine National Police (PNP), 22,983 such deaths since the “war on drugs” began are
classified as “homicides under investigation.”

The fact that some people continue to choose to use their own hands to kill people, particularly
children, has been alarming to us in the midst of the problems that we are experiencing today.
Because we are all victims in this situation, no other form of moral reasoning is sufficient or
defendable in order to justify the killing or hurting of other people. Illegal drug use is one of
those crimes that have undoubtedly destroyed many lives, but as a student and a citizen, I
strongly oppose the executions of these people. Everyone has the right to live, and victims of the
aforementioned violations are being denied the satisfaction of these rights.
