Why should Public Healthcare Facilities be free for everyone ?

First of all, all the people do not have stable financial conditions to support themselves for costly
therapies. So I think that in such conditions they should not be left alone and the government should be
responsible for their expenses. This is only possible when public healthcare facilities are given free of
cost.

Secondly, when healthcare is free , it would definitely result in overall well-being of society as more and
more people would be healthier , this will boost the country’s economy.

Thirdly, government revenue is mostly collected from the public for that reason it should be spent on the
public , and I think healthcare is on top of the list.

You have mentioned about Prime Minister Imran Khan's health card facility , what is that?

In Pakistan, P.M Imran Khan has introduced a new health policy in which he issued health cards to the
poor people of the country who cannot afford their expenses. Health cards will be credited with the
amount which could be used for their treatment.

Why do some people think it should not be free?

Some people argue that everyone should be responsible for their own health, and by making people
responsible for their health it would improve overall public health, because people would be more
cautious when they have to pay for their expenses.
For Example in Pakistan where healthcare is expensive, people usually involve themselves in healthy
activities such as gym and regular exercise. So it should not be free..

What do you think ? What is your stance?

I am completely convinced that healthcare facilities should be free of cost. I am of the view that it is one of
the basic rights of every citizen and the government should be responsible for it. If healthcare is left
private, it would be a business for the capitalist where the poor and rich would not be treated equally. So it
should be free.
