Conclusion

To conclude, the findings support the importance of motivation regarding students’ academic
performance. Notably, highly intrinsically motivated students persist longer, are more self-driven,
and exhibit greater accomplishments in their academic endeavours whereas students who are
extrinsically motivated view studying as a compulsion, and feel compelled to learn. As a result,
intrinsically motivated peers outperform their extrinsically motivated counterparts in academics.
The results have implications for the teachers that they should devote more time and effort in
enhancing students’ motivation during the course of instructions. Not only do parents and the
government need to engage in motivating students, but also students themselves should aqquaint
with peer groups that can potentially boost their motivation. That’s why determining a good
source of motivation can actually improve one’s overall academic success.
