know right thank you asking hide declaration

Officer : Border control. Your documents, please.

Foreigner : Just a moment. I have to look for them in my overcoat. Here you are.

Officer : Your documents are all right. Now I’d like to have a look at your luggage and the
customs declaration.

Foreigner : Very well, sir. This is my luggage. Would you like a cigarette?

Officer : No, thank you. I don’t smoke. Everything is alright as yet. Oh, and what is this?

Foreigner : I beg your pardon?

Officer : I’m asking if you know what this is?

Foreigner : Do you mean this? Oh, it’s a gift.

Officer : If it’s a gift there was no reason to hide it so deeply.

Foreigner : You know what I thought…

Officer : I’d like to know what you thought.

Foreigner : I imagined I could buy it for my wife as a gift. You know how it is… present from abroad,
from Poland…

Officer : Yes, I know. But I suppose that you won’t deny that the quantity and kinds of these
hidden things would indicate smuggling rather than gifts.

Foreigner : You are right, I think.

Officer : In that case, you are asked to take your luggage and follow me to the office.

Foreigner : Will it take long? Will it be confiscated? If it must be taken away from me, please do
your duty here.

Officer : Come along with me, please.

Foreigner : If there is no other way, let’s go.

Officer : I hope it won’t be long. You are supposed to answer some questions.
