Time: 3 hI'S.] [Max. Marks: 80

Instructions to Candidate

I) All questions carry marks as indicated.

2) Answer THREE questions from Section A and THREE questions from Section B.

3) Assume suitable data wherever necessary.

4) Due credit will be given to neatness and adequate dimensions.

5) Illustrate your answer wherever necessary with the help of neat sketches.

6) Use ofnon-programmable calculator is peimitted. -

SECTION A

1. Analyse the Frame shown in figure (1) by Kani's method and draw BMD. 13
2. Analyse the Frame shown in figure (2 ) by Kani's method and draw BMD. 13

3. Analyse the Frame shown in figure (3) by cantilever method. 13

4. (a) Analyse the frame shown in figure (4) by portal method. 7

(b) Calculate stiffness and carry over factor from A to B for the beam shown in figure (5) by column 7
analogy method.

5. Analyse the beam shown in figure (6) by column analogy method. 13

SECTIONB

6. Analyse the beam shown in figure (7) by flexibility matrix method and draw BMD.
13

7. Analyse the frame shown in figure (8) by moment distribution method and draw BMD. 13

8. •. _Calculate force in members of composite truss as shown in figure (9) by strain energy method. The 14
wooden beam of200mmx300mm in size with modulus of elasticity is 10GPa, the cast iron strut of
80mm diameter with modulus of elasticity is 90 GPa. The tie rods are made of steel with 30mm
diameter and modulus of elasticity is 900GPa.

9. The following readings are observed on the rectangular strain rosette mounted on steel specimen. 13
Calculate principal stresses and locate their planes. Take modulus of elasticity is 200 GPa and
poisson's ratio is 0.3.
Strain at 0 degree= 600 micro strain
Strain at 45 degree = -450 micro strain
Strain at 90 degree = 800 micro stain.

10. Write short notes. (Any THREE) 13

1. Types of strain gauges and their application.
2. Equilibrium and compatibility ~quations.
3. Generalized hook's Jaw.
4. Components and function of photo elastic bench.
