Facilities management is necessary in the operations and maintenance of an organization (Putnam &

Price, 2004). It ensures that a workplace is in good condition. Being a facilities manager means that one
has to know the ins and outs of the building from the maintenance of electrical systems down to
lightning systems, building structures, plumbing systems, pollution controls, air-conditioning and the
like. The work of a facilities manager is not only limited to maintenance but also project management
skills, people management, leadership and, interpersonal skills. The application of facilities management
encompasses and integrates various engineering disciplines in order to secure a building’s operation.
