Activity: mystery number

Lesson Target- find and identify numbers to 100, number identification

 K.CC.A.1
 Count to 100 by ones and by tens.
 K.CC.A.2
 Count forward beginning from a given number within the known sequence (instead of having
to begin at 1).
 K.CC.A.3
 Write numbers from 0 to 20. Represent a number of objects with a written numeral 0-20 (with
0 representing a count of no objects).

Brief introduction to the task


 Today we are going to do a mystery number activity. We have done this before but it is really
important that we learn and know all our numbers to 100 and this will help us recognize these
numbers.

Introduce the skill/strategy.


 This will help us learn our numbers and be able to find any number 1-100.

Model and think aloud the skill/strategy


Okay, so I am going to call off a number and we need to look to find the number then color it in. when
we are completely done we will have a mystery number. If we find all the correct numbers we will be
able to reveal the mystery number!

The first number is……


Okay find this number and color it in. if someone around us needs a little extra help you can help them
but make sure we color it in on our paper first.

Repeat process until mystery number is visible

Formative assessment.

 What number comes first? What number comes second?
 How did you find that?
 What strategies can we use to help us find a number?

After filling out the mystery number:


If you are completely done with mystery number. I want you to turn to your partner and quiz them
on the number.
Partner one will ask to point to a number, partner 2 will point. Then quiz partner one.
