4. GENERAL (APPLICABLE TO PTP)

4.1 19” rack

1. The vertical mounting frames of the 19” rack shall be pushed back far enough to avoid the door of
the rack placing any pressure on the patch leads/cables connecting to the front of rack-mount
devices.

4.2 Cable & Fibre Installation

1. Should the cable have to pass through any entry plates on walls or on the building, then
waterproof cable glands shall be used.
2. Waterproof glands shall be used for passing of S-FTP cable into the outdoor racks or
containers.
3. Do not run the S-FTP cable in close proximity to any lightning down conductors or tower
earth cables.
4. The maximum cable run length shall be 100m in total. Should this prove to be insufficient for
a specific sector radio then an alternate approach using fibre optic link to the radio will have
to be used. This should be identified at the time of site survey. In the event that a fibre
connection is required:
4.1. Power to the ODU radio shall still be provided via the SFTP CAT5E, 0.53mm, 24AWG,
4Pairs, Black, Outdoor Cable as per a standard installation. Standard lightning
protection applies. (using
4.2. Multimode rugged fibre patch lead shall be installed between the RTN380 AX radio and
BBU or Router port. (using LC 10G Multi Mode eSFP on both sides)
4.3. A separate SFTP CAT5E, 0.53mm, 24AWG, 4Pairs, Black, Outdoor Cable shall be run
between the GE(e) on the ODU and the P&E “Outdoor Power Injector” network switch
and the radio using the same cable route/ducts/trunking as the S-FTP cable used for
power supply.
4.4. SFP modules shall be plugged into the radio and switch/BBU for termination of the fibre
optic cable on each end.
4.5. Suitable gland shall be provided at the container/cabinet entry plate for ensuring a
waterproof entry point for the fibre cable.
5. Waterproofing:
5.1. External connectors shall be sealed with the following layers:
5.1.1.Insulation tape around connector and cable
5.1.2.Butyl compound, 3M self-amalgamating tape” Rubber Tape” (don’t use the supplied
Cotran-waterseal mastic tape)
5.1.3.Black insulation tape
5.1.4.Two cable ties to secure the insulation tape end from lifting and peeling off.
6. All cable ties should be cut off flush at the head, or cinch-Point to avoid injury (no sharp
edges on the ties).

4.3 Cable slack/double drip and loops

1. 1.5m cable double drip/slack loop shall be provided outside of the cabinet and inside outdoor
rack. The cable slack loop shall be neatly secured and prevented from unravelling through
the use of cable ties.
2. At double drip loop (2m) of approximate diameter of 200mm shall be made at the ODU
mount pole near the radio between Mast.

3. Any excess fibre optic cable shall be neatly coiled and secured inside the 19” equipment
rack.
4. Cable tie shall be used for securing of all cable route/ducts/trunking/pols, spaced typically 1m
apart, at installer’s discretion.

4.4 Earthing and Lightning Protection

1. Each antenna pole or bracket shall be connected to the building or mast earth via a 16mm 2.
Non-insulated earth lugs shall be used on either end of the earth cables.
2. The earth cable from the Pole and radio shall connect onto the same building/Mast earth.
3. Where no building or mast earth exists, the 16mm2 earth cable shall be run down the side of
the building wall or mast to ground level. This earth cable shall be suitably secured.
4. No drip loops must be used on earth cables and sharp right-angle bends are not permitted.
5. All the earth connections shall be covered with Denso paste.
6. The P&E “Outdoor Power Injector” units shall be connected to the rack earth bar using 6mm 2 G/Y
PVC coated earth cable.
7. For mast installations, the earth strap integrity of the mast shall be fully checked during the time of
site survey and any remedial action indicated.

4.4.1 Pole installations on a Building roof

1. Generally, each Radio shall have its own pole, preferably located on the appropriate side of the
building.
2. The antennas shall be located in such a manner to ensure that there is no possibility of them
being physically obstructed by personnel moving in front of them or by any material (e.g.
Advertising boards, netting, wire mesh etc).
3. The poles shall be secured on the inside of the roof wall using wall mount brackets using a
minimum of 4 x M10 100mm long studs chemical anchor bolts Either flush mount or offset
brackets can be used as deemed appropriate. Offset brackets to be used when there is an
overhang on the inside of the building parapet.
4. ODU mounting poles should not protrude more than 1m above the edge of the building unless
required to do so for the antenna to clear a local obstruction.
5. The ODU pole & bracket shall be installed determined at the time of the site survey and with
Landlord permission.

4.4.2 Mast installations

1. Comfy clamps shall be used for securing of all cables on masts, spaced typically 1 - 2m apart, at
installer’s discretion.
2. 76mm diameter poles shall be used with both sides of the pole secured to the mast. The
mounting pole shall be located as close as possible to the mast pole so as to minimise the torque
on the bracket due to wind load.
3. Customised brackets will be used where necessary to connect the ODU to the mast. The brackets
should ensure that the pole onto which the ODU attaches is vertical in both N-S and E-W planes
so that azimuth and elevation axes are correctly aligned with horizontal and vertical respectively.
4. The Radio shall always be mounted as low as possible on any mast or mounting pole so as to
minimise moving in the wind with clear line of site “LOS”.

4.5 Mounting

4.5.1 ODU/Antenna
1. The Radio shall always be mounted as low as possible on any mast or mounting pole so
as to minimise moving in the wind with clear line of site “LOS”.
2. Mounting position as state by Landlord contract.

4.5.2 P&E/Power injector Mounting (applicable to E band radios)

1. The P&E devices shall be mounted inside the 19” rack and secured with cable ties. The
orientation of the PONE shall be as shown in the diagram below. All cabling shall route
from the right rear of the rack (as viewed when standing in front of the rack)
2. P&E/Power injector power cable shall be cut to the required length to remove any
unnecessary excess. It shall be neatly routed on the rack cable trays.
3. Each P&E/Power injector power cable shall be connected to a different 48V circuit
breaker (6A minimum) in the BBU (located in the same cabinet). The circuit breaker
on the P&E shall be labelled with Link name (GP80XX” A or B”)

4.6 Network cabling in cabinet

1. Power Cable, 600V/1000V, ROV-K, 2x2.5mm ² , Black (2 Cores: Blue, Brown) connected from
BBU power rail to a P&E box that is powering a radio which has a separate fibre optic signal path.
2. The LC to LC SM patch lead between BBU units and switch/Router shall be neatly routed, and
cable tied.
3. Any excess CAT-5 cable shall be cut off with enough length for the slack loop.
4. All internal rack cables shall be neatly routed, and cable tied.
5. Rain shall provide the port number for each Router/Switch connection.

4.7 Labels
1. The cables shall be labelled approximately 100mm from the RJ45 connector or fibre
connector. A Brother labelling machine (or equivalent) that is capable of producing plastic
stick-on labels shall be used. The labels shall be:
1.1. P&E (Link Name) on both sides
1.2. GE (e) P&E (Link Name) on both sides
1.3. Combo 10G (Link Name) on both sides
1.4. BBU (Switch port) Router side

1.8. At ODU: Labels used at ODU must be outdoor rated and weatherproof. After the label is
applied it shall be secured with a transparent heat shrink to protect the label against sun
and weather conditions.
2. All power cables to P&E shall be labelled both sides as DC P&E and where to.
3. ODU and Antenna shall be labelled with Link name (GP80XX” A or B”)
