The case study that I intend to create involves two ethical standards from the Association for

Applied Sport Psychology's (2011) "Ethics Code". These ethical standards include standard 9
"Multiple Relationships" and standard 6: "Avoiding harm." These are just two important ethical
standards that we will have to balance on our everyday careers. Kevin is a Head Coach for a
college tennis team and has been coaching the team for more than a year. However, Kevin has a
different identity from his players since he is a Caucasian while most of his players consist of
African Americans and Latinos. His team is made up of male and female players. Kevin has
recently been involved in a sexual relationship with one of his female players believing that the
player an adult. This action can be associated with standard 9: multiple relationships. This
standard prevents AASP members from being involved in sexual relationships with clients while
offering professional services. Because of his relationship with the female player, Kevin only
tends to focus on assisting the female player while the other players are only given instructions
on how to train and the rest is left for them to do. He does not lead the other players during
exercise sessions while he spends most of his time training the female player. Because of the
neglect that the other players have been exposed to, their performance in competitions has
reduced and has affected the entire team. Instead of Kevin correcting his mistakes or unethical
conduct by bringing the team together and supporting them, he blames the other players for not
wanting to perform better and states that they are unprofessional. This has not been received well
by the players as they consider it as harming to their social wellbeing.
