Introduction

Values, assumptions, culture, and beliefs have significantly changed my worldview and

perceptions of various social issues in society. My upbringing instilled different good values in

my personality and has shaped my thinking and behavior throughout my life. My values,

assumptions, and beliefs continuously and consistently shape my reality and understanding of

various issues such as racism and equality in different spheres of the world. Additionally, my

beliefs, values, and assumptions affect my behavior. I always believe everyone should be treated

with respect despite their race, religion, age, social status, or ethnicity. I am always overconfident

and ready to defend my perception of various issues whenever I have a different or dissenting

opinion from other people. Lastly, beliefs, assumptions, and values shape the character and

personality of an individual, thus influencing the overall behavior of society to some extent. It is

because the beliefs, values, and assumptions shape the reality of the person and those around

them through interactions and the exchange of ideas.

Identify and summary

As a person who was well brought up in a Christian setting, I possess various values and

beliefs that positively shape my worldview. I strongly advocate and support social justice in

society. It depicts a condition where every person has equal rights, status, liberties, and civil

rights without any form of discrimination—social equality champions a lack of caste boundaries

or discrimination for any person in the society. I believe in equality before the rule of law for

every person irrespective of age, race, gender, origin, religion, disability, or even sex. Social

equality always advocates for equal opportunity for every human being (Wang, pg.474). I am

always against any form of discrimination perpetuated in society, such as racial discrimination

manifested by the rampant white supremacy in modern society. I also value and support racial

equality since all human beings are equal irrespective of race, political affiliation, religion,

gender, or age. Based on my Christian background, I believe all races, such as whites and blacks,

are equal, and there is no inferior or superior race based on any factor whatsoever.

Furthermore, I am a staunch believer and supporter of equity since it ensures fair treatment,

equal opportunity, advancement, and access of every human being. Equity tries to identify and

remove barriers that may prevent some groups from participating or engaging in some

opportunities. As a believer in equity, I always strive to promote impartiality, justice, and

fairness in whatever activity I undertake (Wang, pg.475). Lastly, I value and cherish diversity

since it has many benefits when well exploited. As a person brought up in a cosmopolitan

setting, we attract people from different backgrounds based on race, social status, or even

religion. Diversity in a given environment may mean differences among people due to race,

sexual orientation, socioeconomic class, gender identity, ethnicity, and age. Therefore, people

should not negatively exploit diversity to deny other groups equal opportunity. I am also a

supporter and champion of human rights for all human beings in society in any given setting. I
believe respecting and according to every individual's rights will help eliminate various vices or

social issues in the community.

. Social justice depicts the philosophical and political theory focused on the fairness concept

among human beings in any given setting. It advocates for equal opportunity and access to

wealth, privileges, and other societal factors (Wang, pg.471). The social justice concept emerged

in the nineteenth century due to disparities or differences in social and wealth standing

perpetrated during that era. The fundamental principles of social justice entail equity, human

rights, free access to resources, participation, and diversity. Initially, social justice mainly

focused on various issues like distribution of wealth, capital, and property due to severe

economic distress and inequality levels that resulted from the social class structure. Presently,

social justice has significantly shifted towards emphasizing human rights and improving the lives

of marginalized and disadvantaged groups in society. The value and belief in social justice have

manifested in my life's various actions. I always strive to live as an example of social justice

advocate by never discriminating or infringing on the rights of people in any engagement I

undertake. Having a background in social justice has also dictated how I interact with any person

irrespective of their gender, race, age, or religion. I have advocated and participated in black

lives matter campaigns because all human beings are equal and should never be judged or

discriminated against based on their color. I believe I will still be an active advocate for social

justice in society since I constantly yearn to live in a society where no one is judged based on

their color, gender, religion, or social status.

Relating

Based on Zurcher, critical race theory is dividing the US. I'm afraid I have to disagree with the

assertion that critical race theory is a concept that divides the US. Critical race theory has

recently become a fierce and controversial topic. The existing conflict among stakeholders has

manifested in schools since the administrators and teachers are grappling with the strategy of

teaching inequality, race, and discrimination in a school setting (Zurcher). I believe critical race

theory divides the US since it provides an essential framework for comprehending how systemic

racism perpetuates disadvantages and discrimination to specific groups in society. I strongly

condemn some Republican states that have banned the teaching of critical race theory since they

deprive the students an opportunity of learning how racism and discrimination are undertaken

and its disadvantages to other social groups such as people of color. As a stronger believer and

advocate of social justice, I believe learning about critical race theory allows the students to learn

about equality and equity in society. Failing to teach our children about critical race theory

depicts the denial to embrace and accept the reality of inequality and racial discrimination

perpetuated in various forms in society. I believe the critical race theory topic will go a long way

in creating awareness about the need to uphold social justice in society by practicing equality,

equality, fairness, access, and human rights for all people irrespective of their age, religion,

socioeconomic status, sexual orientation or even gender. Therefore, I strongly oppose the

assertion that teaching critical race theory divides the US. We are a nation already divided along

with race, religion, and other socioeconomic factors; hence there is a need to embrace the reality

and develop and implement various mechanisms of uprooting inequality and discrimination that

has been perpetuated for many years.
