Played by: Anika Sharma 6A CBSE

WHO WAS I ????

I was a British socialist, theosophist, women’s rights

activist, writer, orator and educationist. Regarded as a
champion of human freedom, I was an ardent supporter
of both, Irish and Indian self rule. I was a prolific author
with over 300 books and pamphlets to my credit. As an
educationist, my contributions included the founding of
the Banaras Hindu University.
WHAT DID I DO FOR INDIA ?

Besant first visited India in 1893 and later settled there,

becoming involved in the Indian nationalist movement. In
1916 she established the Indian Home Rule League, of
which she became president. She was also a leading
member of the Indian National Congress. I
encouraged Indian national consciousness, attacked the
caste system and child marriage, and worked effectively
for Indian education.
AN INTERESTING FACT ABOUT ME !!!

Did you know , New India was a newspaper founded by me as a means to spread news related
to the Indian freedom struggle. The idea of the newspaper was like Gandhi jigs  Harijan and
Tilak's Kesari.
