Title: Gender Roles: Sociological Approach To Explain Gender

I. FOR STUDENTS WITH BOTH MOTHER AND FATHER:

A. Enumerate 5 gender roles or function specifically for your mother. Provide as well 5

specifically for your father.

Mother's roles/function at home:

1. One of the mother's responsibilities is to effectively manage and regulate the family's

financial status. She must manage the money she spends on essential necessities such as food,

energy bills, leisure plans, and savings.

2. When someone is sick, she will became the ‘household nurse’. She will devote her full time

taking care of her children and spouse.

3. Mothers are the one who will cook and prepare our food.

4. The role of nurturer is one of the most important responsibilities that a mother could do. A

mother provides love, care, kindness, and understanding to her children.

5. Mothers are the ‘Light’ of learnings. They became our first teachers who taught us about

everything.

Father's roles/function at home.

1. At home, Dad is the primary enforcer of family rules and boundaries. Fathers educate

children about responsibility and determining what is right and wrong, as well as helping to
shape essential components of their character.

2. They are the ‘financial provider’ of the family.

3. The father is the ‘protector’ of the family wherein he provides safety and security inside our

home.

4. A father should also serve as a role model for his children. A mentor is someone who

guides and advises a younger or less experienced individual through time.

5. Every father should strive to build a united family by actively bonding with his children

and wife together.

B. Choose one sociological theory used in the last discussion to explain gender. Use your

chosen sociological theory to explain why these are roles spefically done by your mother and

father. Explain in min 2 or max 5 sentences.

- With the family viewed as the most important component of society, beliefs regarding

gender roles within marriage feature prominently in the Structural Functionalism

viewpoint. According to theory, gender roles were formed long before the pre-industrial

era, when males were responsible for tasks outside the house, while women were

responsible for domestic responsibilities in or around the home. As a result, the above-

mentioned roles/functions of a mother and father were handed down to succeeding

generations since they were an efficient method of maintaining the family structure

working correctly.
