To what extent will prioritizing education ···/24
benefit developing countries' economies? *

Yes, prioritizing education will drastically benefit developing

countries' economies and the standards of living at the same
time.

For example, in developing countries such as India, the poverty

rate is higher than 35%. When children in low-income areas leave
schools with basic reading and writing skills, over 171 million
people can be lifted from poverty. This will then boost the
country's economic capabilities as the clean conditions might
attract tourists from overseas and generate an income. The
standard of living for the residents also increase as the literacy
rate of the population increases.

There is a 66% drop in maternal mortality if all ladies have

completed primary education. This helps to create larger and
more diverse societies, and also prevents the issue of broken
families, where there is only 1 parent to care for the child, thus
reducing the chance of the child feeling lonely and developing
social and/or psychological problems.

If all women have a secondary education, about 12 million

children can be saved from poor growth, and there would be 49%
fewer child deaths. This also boosts the standard of living and
helps children have a better future, increasing the chance of them
having a longer life span, getting a successful job, and being
accepted in society.

There would be a 64% drop early marriages and 59% fewer early
pregnancies. Both of these will contribute to a lower birth rate,
thus helping the country to stabilise the population and keep
resources in adequate amounts. So the country has to spend less
money on implementing new laws and restrictions to control the
population.

Even a year of schooling contributes to a 10% increase in wage

earnings, thus the labour force can earn more money which
contributes to the expansion of the nation's economy. A better
education can also mean that more students graduate literate, so
there will be an increase in the working force size and quality.

In conclusion, education is vital and in many ways can boost a

country's economy.
