Verbos Modales

1. Can
Uno de los usos más comunes de este verbo modal es expresar habilidad. En este
caso, can es otra forma de decir “be able to”. Ejemplos de este pueden ser:

I can play the guitar / Sé tocar la guitarra.

Así mismo podemos utilizarlo para hacer preguntas y a su vez responderlar:

Can you play the guitar?

Yes, I can play the guitar. (Afirmativa)

No, I can’t play the guitar. (Negativa)

2. Should

Should se utiliza para dar o pedir consejo u opinión. También lo vemos como un

“deberías”. Ejemplo del mismo sería:

You should practice soccer. / Deberías practicar fútbol.

En el caso de pregunta y respuesta sería:

Should you practice soccer?

Yes, I should practice soccer. (Afirmativo)
No, I shouldn’t practice soccer. (Negativo)
3. Will

Will suele usarse más para poner una oración en inglés en futuro, es decir, este indica
que algo va a pasar en el futuro. Ejemplos de este puede ser:

I will go to sleep early tonight.

En casod e interrogativa:

Will you go to sleep early tonight?

Yes, I’ll go to sleep early tonight. (Afirmativa)

No, I will not go to sleep early tonight. (Negativa)

4. Must

Must es un modo de decir “have to” o “need to” aunque es más formal que estos dos
últimos. Ejemplo de esto:

I must study today. / Debo estudiar hoy.

En interrogativa sería:

Must you study today?

Yes, I must study today. (Afirmativa)

No, I must not study today. (Negativa)

5. May

May es otro verbo modal parecido a can, pero más formal y educado. Se utiliza
para expresar o pedir permiso, y suele considerarse la forma más educada de hacer
esto. Ejemplos pueden ser:
 I may overreacted there.

En la interrogativa sería:

May I come in?

Yes, you can come in. (Afirmativa)

No, you can’t come in. (Negativa)

Today I went to store to buy some chips, I had to money so I thoug “I’m going to buy it,
becouse I can”. Now, I’m here in my room eating my chips thinking that I must do the
homework early if I want to go outside to play with my friends. My mom told me that I
should study harder to get better grades so I can get a good job in the future, and she’s
right, I’ll get a good job in the future and she will be proud of me. I do play sports, soccer
just like my father and that reminds me that I can’t go outside with my friends becouse I
must go to the soccer practice...Well, maybe tomorrow I play with them.
