Level of Participation of School Stakeholders in the Implementation of Various

Activities and School Operations: Some Proposals

Chapter 3

Research Methodology

Research Method. This study determined the level of participation of school

stakeholders in the implementation of various activities and school operations in

Amancio Sepulveda Elementary School, Borbon District for the School Year 2021-2022.

This study employed the descriptive correlational survey research design.

According to Calmorin and Calmorin (1996), a descriptive research design is used when

a study focuses at the present condition and the purpose is to find new truth. It is only

useful when the data to be gathered concerns the present condition providing the value

of facts and focusing the attention to the most important things to be reported. On the

other hand, correlational design is valuable in providing facts on which scientific

judgment is based on determining the relationship of two variables using correlation

analysis, based on the computed and analyzed data.

As mentioned by Fraenkel and Wallen (1993), Calmorin and Calmorin (1996) and

Bautista (1998) a survey research design is a strategy that enables one to study

naturally occurring phenomena as well as to answer questions about the distribution of

and relationships among characteristics of people as they exist in their natural setting.

The data will be collected from at least a part of the population as basis for assessing

the incidence, distribution, and interrelations of phenomena and variables as they occur

in the lives of people.

Statistical Tool

In this study, the following statistical tools were used to treat, analyze and interpret the

results:

1. Mean and Standard Deviation. These statistical tools were used to answer sub-

problem numbers 1-2.

2. Pearson Product Moment Correlation (Pearson r) and Regression Analysis. These

statistical tools were used to answer sub-problem number 5 at 5% level of significance.

Research Subjects and Respondents. The stakeholder-respondents of this research

included 2 Non-government Organizations, 9 Parent-Teacher Association (PTA)

Officials, 9 Classroom Officers, 9 Barangay Officials, and 10 Sangguniang Kabataan

Officials from the Municipality of Borbon.

Research Instruments. This study uses researcher-restructured and researcher-made

questionnaires with three parts. Part I of the research instrument inquires on the
demographic profile of the respondents. Part II is a researcher-restructured

questionnaire adapted from the Department of Education Revised School-Based

Management Assessment Tool based on DepEd Order No. 83, s. 2012. This tool

assesses the four (4) dimensions of the SBM based on the Revised SBM Manual. Part

III is a researcher-made questionnaire that assesses and evaluates the level of

stakeholders’ participation in the implementation of various activities and school

operations.

As regards questionnaire items, the researcher used five Likert scales, which

required an individual participant to respond to a series of statements in questionnaire

by indicating whether he/she very highly involved, highly involved, moderately involved,

less involved, least involved. Validity of research instrument was ascertained by

discussing and checking the questionnaire with panel members, and then the

instrument was passed onto research adviser for further assessment and consideration

before use.

Table 2: Likert Scales

Four-point Likert scale was used in computing for the weighted means of gathered data
using the following rating:
Rating Scale Level of Participation
5 4.50-5.00 Very Highly Involved
4 3.50 – 4.49 Highly Involved

3 2.50 – 3.49 Moderately Involved

2 1.50 – 2.49 Less Involved

1 1.00-1.49 Least Involved

Data Gathering Procedure. Five phases are sequentially followed in the generation of

data towards completing this research: Demographic Profile of the respondents (phase

one), Level of Participation of Stakeholders’ in the Implementation of various Activities

(phase two), Level of Participation of Stakeholders’ in the Implementation of school

operations (phase three), Perception of the Respondents as to their level of participation

in implementation of various activities and school operations (phase four), The

Significant relationship as to the level of participation of stakeholders in the

implementation of various activities and school operations (phase five).

Ethical Standard. To gather the data needed in this study, the following procedures

were done by the researcher: Primarily, the researcher asked permission from the

Schools District Supervisor. Upon approval of the letter, the researcher proceeded to

ask permission to the school principal where the research was conduct ed. The letters

were duly signed by the researcher and the adviser before these were distributed. The

instrument was thoroughly evaluated and pilot tested from non-respondents from the

nearby stakeholders in the school before use so as to determine the validity, reliability,

and feasibility.
