Language Teaching: Attitude and Obstacles

2.  Statement of the Problem

A lot of stakeholders in the educational sectors have expressed sincere feelings about the decline
of the value of English language education. The stakeholders have been using ICT as a means to
enhance the value of English language education. The teachers think that ICT changes are
processes that have accelerated teaching and learning of English language. Therefore, the schools
and the teachers are using ICT as a tool to teach English language.

I visited some schools of Bhojpur municipality for observing student teachers who were involved
in practice teaching conducted by Campus. What I found was that the schools have purchased
some computers and connected internet to have access to digital information for teaching and
learning purposes. I consulted some English teachers and headmasters and asked them the
reasons for managing computers and connecting internet in the schools. They replied that they
wanted to enhance teaching and learning English by using ICT. However, they could not use ICT
in teaching and learning because of many factors such as lack of knowledge, training, motivating
strategy, etc. So, the computers were covered with dust and they were useless as the schools did
not use computers. Therefore, there may be some issues or problems related to the ICT. They
are:

a. The schools are lacking knowledge and training in the of the ICT in teaching and learning.

b. Some schools due to the lack of fund they can not purchase ICT equipment for teaching and
learning.

c. Some teachers are not trained and aware to use ICT in teaching and learning.

d. Some schools and teachers are facing obstacles or barriers in using ICT.

e. The teachers have positive attitude towards using ICT in in ELT. 

3 Objectives of the Study

The main objective of the study is to find out the use of ICT in teaching and learning of English
language. Specifically, the study aims at finding out the following:

a.     To explore current situation  of using  ICT in teaching and learning of English language in
Secondary schools of Bhojpur municipality.

b.    To find out attitude or perception of English teachers towards using ICT in ELT.

c. To investigate the obstacles or barriers faced by the English teachers in using ICT.
4  Research Questions

As a result of the clear statement of the purpose of the search, the following vital research
questions are raised to guide the study:

a. What is the current situation of using ICT in teaching and learning of English language in
Secondary schools of Bhojpur municipality?

 b. What is the attitude or perception of English teachers towards using ICT in ELT? 

c. What are the obstacles or barriers that the teachers face in using ICT in the classroom of the
schools?

5 Hypothesis of the Study

The teachers have positive hypothesis towards using ICT in ELT.
