Meet the Storyteller Lesson Plan:

Required materials:
● Meet the Storyteller Scholastic Edition
● Dreamers by Yuyi Morales
● Kid-eccott Award Worksheet

Opening:
● Introduce lesson to students by reminding them that they have been
working on writing their own fiction stories
● Tell them that today they will read about a famous author who also
writes fiction stories

Body:
● Read Scholastic News called “Meet the Storyteller” about Yuyi Morales
● After discussing who Yuyi is and where she is from, watch her Read
Aloud her book Dreamers
● Discuss the characters in the story and how their lives are similar and
different to our own using a double bubble chart

Closing of the lesson:

● Close the lesson by having students create their own Award for the
book Dreamers based on their favorite part of the story

Assessment:
● Students will be informally assessed on their ability to retell a part of
the story Dreamers with their Book Award
● They will also be assessed in their participation of creating a double
bubble map to compare their life to that of Yuyi and her Characters
