REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES

This chapter presents the review of related literature and studies that the researcher

considers relevant to the present investigation and supply a greater understanding in the

development of learners reading comprehension.

Foreign Literature and Studies

The use of the web in languages has been developed at very high speed these last

years. Thus, we are witnessing many research and development projects set in universities

and distance learning programs. However, the interest in research related to writing

competence remains relatively low. Our proposed research examines the use of the web for

studying English as a second foreign language at an Alegrian University. (Zidat and Douji,

2018).

Local Literature and Studies

Reading comprehension is one of the reading competencies that every students has to

develop. However, there are still students who are below the proficiency level of reading

comprehension despite the reading instructions and strategies provided by the teachers for the

improvement of students reading comprehension (Bilbao et al., 2016). A validated adapted

but modified test questionnaire was used to determine the level of reading comprehension of

education students. Moreover, it sought to determine the significant difference in the level of

reading comprehension of the students when analyzed according to sex and year level. The

mean, t-test and standard deviation were the statistical tools used in this study.
