“History is guide to navigation in perilous times. History is who we are and why we are the way we are.

History is like chapters of stories written by people who have lived those “stories” for people in
the future to navigate through, especially in these turbulent times of pandemic where countries from all
around the world are facing health and human rights crisis. Understanding the roots of any problem lies
in going through history. History helps us in finding ways to deal with these kinds of problems because it
shows us glimpse of historical events that were similar to what the world is facing right now. It tells us
about the dangers of war, which systems of government work and which are dangerous, the importance
of trade, the dangers of relying on arms to keep the peace, the huge advantages of education, how to
successfully organize a government, how to govern, and many more things which can be of help in
dealing with the problems that our country is facing right now and will encounter in the future.

As a BSED-English student, studying the Readings of the Philippine history, constitution, and land
reform is a great opportunity for me to learn and expand my knowledge and understanding about the
past—which have significantly shaped the modern world, and it is also a great help in identifying who I
am as a Filipino citizen of this country. Everything that I will learn from this subject will be with me as I
take the arduous journey of becoming an educator, someday. And hopefully, I will get to share this
knowledge to the future generations and will help them become good citizens of this country.

As what William Lund said, “We study the past to understand the present; we understand the
preset to guide the future.” What happened yesterday helps shaped today, and what occurred today
becomes tomorrow's history.
