A Reading
from the holy Gospel
according to
Luke 6:12-16
Jesus went up to the
mountain to pray, and he
spent the night in prayer to
God. When day came, he
called his disciples to himself,
and from them he chose
Twelve, whom he also named
Apostles: Simon, whom he
named Peter, and his brother
Andrew, James, John, Philip,
Bartholomew, Matthew,
Thomas, James the son of
Alphaeus, Simon who was
called a Zealot, and Judas the
son of James, and Judas
Iscariot, who became a
traitor.

Whenever we’re about to make a very important
decision in life, it is a must that we first pray to our Lord for
His guidance and blessings, so that He will give us the
strength to overcome any obstacle that we may face in
choosing that decision.
In the gospel, among the individuals, God selected
His disciples and apostles that will accompany Him on His
journey. They are not needed to be affluent or well-
educated, but should be capable of carrying out His mission
with excellence.
The gospel tells us that God doesn’t give us more
than we can handle. In life, every problem that He gives us
has a corresponding solution and answer. You know why
He gives us these problems? Because He knows that we can
do it, that we can still handle them.
It is like when you join a sports competition. Who
would you pick as your teammates? Of course, those you
know who are good at the game, those who are capable of
helping bring your team to victory.
But for sure, all of us knows that among the 12
disciples, there was Judas Iscariot, a traitor. While it is true
that God will occasionally assist us in avoiding the
experience of evil in our lives – that is, He will provide
divine protection – he will also provide us with the grace to
be purified by the evil that befalls us at other times. That is,
we cannot always escape negative events and evil in our
life. But, because of God's enormous love for us, He will
utilize the awful things, the wicked, as a means of grace.
