Global Citizenship - Lesson Plan
LESSON OBJECTIVE: Students will use various online resources to research a foreign country of their
choice and complete a research worksheet.
STATE STANDARD(S):
● CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RI.3.1: Ask and answer questions to demonstrate understanding of a text,
referring explicitly to the text as the basis for the answers.
● CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RI.3.5: Use text features and search tools (e.g., key words, sidebars,
hyperlinks) to locate information relevant to a given topic efficiently.

INSTRUCTIONAL PROCEDURES
Anticipatory Set: (Bring all students to the rug with attention at the front of the room)
● “Can anyone tell me what our school is celebrating this week? Why do we have so many
different flags hanging around our campus?”
Perceived Objective and Rationale: “One way we can help celebrate International Week at
our school is to take some time to research and learn about different countries.”
Input/Modeling/Guided Practice: Teacher will walk through steps in order to complete a Research
Report worksheet using the United States as an example. Students will follow along.
Independent Practice: Students will use their laptops (and the given websites) in order to
research their given country and fill out the Research Report Worksheet
- Checking for Understanding: Throughout the lesson, teacher will circle to classroom in
order to help students in need of additional support
Closing: After students have completed their own Research Report worksheet, students will come to
the front rug and take turns sharing one fact about their country.
